Cosmetic and functional planet improvements

We're working on a wide range of things including one thing that has bugged me a long time: The way planets look.

Ugh.  These just look so bad.

Now improved to:

These will be part of an upcoming free update later this Fall.

We are also going to release a DLC with a bunch of new planet types (with really cool looking surfaces made from scratch to support the new system) that give worlds a little more character both visually and in terms of bonuses/penalties.

The changes look great! With this new DLC, be nice to have PlanetTraits (or what ever they get called with the revamp) hooked into PreReq's so we can hook nice interesting events to add even more character. :)

Dang, I thought the original looking was ok and servicable until you shown the improved version. I can't look back at the original anymore

To be honest I don't think this is important element in any way. And new "water" looks weird...

This would be more significant:

I just hope in "planet DLC" you won't include unstable/heavy planets since I just moded them in like 30 minutes including new techs for them. It would be annoying if it turned out to be waste of time :)

The top is better IMO because it's brighter.  Water especially.  But these are quite different planets so the bottom might be specific to shrouded planets.

More planetary character is welcome.  Definitely something I care about.  Especially if planetary traits can be made prerequisites to events or improvements, or if racial abilities can give bonuses on specific planets a la the way Bulrathi get normalized production in high gravity.

End of karlfranz-pl's quote

Running a game studio is a lot like playing a strategy game.

The example you give involves C++ developers which are different people from creating updates visuals for the planets.  We have art staff available presently to do work on GalCiv but engineers are tasked for other things presently.

Have you sneaked these adjustments in at some point over the last couple days? :)

Yes I am 90% sure you have looking at some old to new screenshots. Like the changes.

Will there be visual cues for terraforming? Like the planet turning greener starting at the right latitude(s) when you terraform?
