Help for New Player

No Reference/Rules?

I played Galactic Civilizations II years ago and just took the plunge into Galactic Civilizations III a few days ago.  I downloaded the game and promptly read the rule book - only to find a whole lot of the rule book no longer applies.  The Wiki for the game is woefully deficient and its really tedious to have to keep running internet searches every time I have a question or don't understand something.

Is there any single-source document that explains the game in it's current state?  It seems as if all that's out there is geared towards telling experienced players what has changed lately, but I can't find anything comprehensive for new players.  It's really taking all of the fun out of the game as I barely have enough time to play the game and spending a lot of that time researching rules and mechanics is sucking all the fun out of it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I’m unaware of any updated document. The forums here are somewhat active so if you have questions people will try and help. I love playing with my smart phone next to me. In fact it is how I use these forums 97% of the time.

I suggest watching the lets play stuff on Youtube.

The manual is pretty good, though no single document can capture the detail in GC3.

The trick until recently, was finding the manual.  Many links point to the long-obsolete 1.03 version, which I suspect is the one you're looking at.  The current version is _2018.  With the 3.8 update, the manual icon on the game main menu screen (lower right) will bring it up in your default browser.

Or you can find it in your local installation directory, which might turn into a snipe hunt since Steam buries its installation.  So a search for GalCiv3_Manual2018.pdf might be your best bet.

Now that you've found the manual, what section should you refer to?  Depends on what you have installed and running.

Thank you, DMF.  My problem was indeed having the 1.03 version.  I didn't spot the manual on the main menu and have to admit that when I saw the bottom of the screen was marketing the DLCs, I didn't see the small icon in the very bottom right that leads to the new manual.  I'll be looking at it now.  Thanks, again, for leading me to it.

Ok the manual 3.8 is your best bet. I would state that the forums, and discord is a decent place to get help. Let's play videos will help. Also there is a little more outdated newbie, and other guides on steam.
