Is update 4.0 still on schedule?

As I remember reading Steam posts few months ago, update 4.0 was supposed to bring this Winter updated battles. Is this still on track?

Draginol might be able to say more about this but I believe our current dev focus is on Siege of Centauri and The Video Game Machine.

Yes Sir, this question is to Draginol.

Posting one of his replies.  There was another about update 4.0 and winter schedule but cant find it.

Some of the ideas here make me want to design up a separate, smaller game that is just space combat.

The problem with having this kind of thing as part of the game is that you don't want battles in game to take too long because you can end up with a lot. Work has already begun on how combat will work in future GalCiv's which will be very different than what we have from today.

Your ideas and feedback are super helpful"

I interpreted that comment from Brad differently than you apparently. To me it sounds more like its referring to GC4, not that they're planning to overhaul the combat in GC3. Guess we'll see.

Nah, he was specifically talking about GC3.  Just cant find his post.

A lot of what was going to be in 4.0 went into 3.9.   Right now, we're trying to decide when to start working on GC4 versus continuing to do major updates to GC3.

I am little concern about GC4.

1. First it would have to include all features from 3 at lunch and be better at the same time
2. There is a lot of cool ships that would needed to be recreated not to mention mods.
3. If the game turns out to be just an improved version buying it again at full price might make no sense, maybe if it was as an upgrade from 3
4. You made a lot of improvement recently and all thou there is still place for polish/bugfix/typos I can't realisticly expect GC4 would be free from it from lunch.

This will probably be tricky decisions with a lot of technical/financial aspects to consider.

Personally I think there is still a lot of life in GC3 and I can't really see too much place for significant change in general gameplay (major thing holding game back is no doubt space combat, but personally for me is not that big problem) I hope you will not take same path civ6 took, making changes just to make changes (I can't even look at screenshots of civ 6 and I still think 5 is way better, just as I still sometimes see comments saying GC2 was better)

I once heard someone saying something like: "everyone got his/her civilization". Ppl still play Civs 2,3,4... A while ago I even gave a try 'Call to power 2' and 'Alpha Centauri'. New isn't always better in this genre.

Thank you for clarification.

Hopefully GC4 will have less cartoonist graphics and battles will be a lot more satisfying :)

The art style is a side effect of the customization (I assume you are talking about the ships?)

Yes and no... a lot can be done with the rendering and textures of the ship parts. For one thing, making them have a universal material quality (shinyness/etc.) and then have that modified by the fleet editor. Currently the fleet editor applies an overlay but each ship style of parts has it's own material properties, making ships very incongruous looking if you are not careful about selecting parts.

This is one of my biggest gripes with ship styles. Also, I wish there was an option to make the textures uniform regardless of the scale of the parts... As far as style goes, I think those two changes would make a tremendous difference.
