Planet annexing financial penalty

When I annexed a planet, it came with huge financial loss (more than -3000 credits). I was broke for several turns. Is this intended behavior? Since annexing is kinda automatic, at least some warning that it's gonna financially ruin you would be nice.

Did you surpass the colony limit of your current government with the new planet? Otherwise I can't imagine why you should suffer such a loss. A planet may have higher maintenance than earnings, but that's a handful of BC at most. While surpassing your colony limit lowers morale on all your planets and that may have a bigger impact.

I believe it is some kind of weird bug.  I have seen that once, going under for -3500 credits while I was generating 50bc per turn...  But I tried to reload to reproduce the behavior and it didn't happen again.  Very hard to file a bug report for something so random. :(

If you Annex a planet and the AI has rushed an improvement on that planet, you get charged for it. This is why you sometimes lose money and end up in the red.
