Conclusion after a couple of games from an old SpaceEmpire gamer ...

have played Space 4X games from the very beginning (C64/Amiga) including SpaceWardHO - MoO - Space Empire V and at last the dissapointing Stellaris ...

GC3 is in a good tradition with the great games of the 4X timeline, i like it much :D 

... but have a couple of draw-backs ..

First the most big for my player friends, to play multiplayer - the max size of the galaxy is "way to small" ...

I was happy to the gigantic size in singleplayer - and realy shocked on the cripled max size in multiplayer .... hope this will be incrased in the not so distant future ..... the enhusiasmus in my friend group is significant dropped with this way smaler available galaxy size in multiplayer .................. (and so the willingness to spend money on the game ...)

The things that are additionaly missing :

Ship upgrades on ship yards should significant cheaper as "on the wild in space" (the ship upgrade in space should be restricted to small changes only ... it is simply insane to full refitt an big ship in space without an dock ..)

It should be possible the fly away fron an battle if your ship(s) have enough tactical speed ... (maybe variable chance..)

An history of the messages you get would be nice .... (research finished/messages from other civs/galnet msg ...)

 

Thats all for the biggest draw-backs from my point of view - it is a couple of small things too, but thats not important.... :)

I'm not an MP guy so maybe this is a silly question, but can't you just select the next bigger map size in MP? Or are MP games just possible with certain map sizes.

 

However, I 'd love to have cheaper ship upgrades in shipyards and maybe starbases as well, esp. early to mid-game. In my games, I usually just build the newer types then , which makes the previous versions throwaway units as long I can't afford the price for upgrading.

the singleplayer Ludicrous galaxy size is "really" an superior game map size ... excellent ...

But the dissapointment was even much bigger, as on the first MP hosting for an friend , i can only set "Gigantic" as max size in MP games ...

This have stoped my most friend to get this game, as this is an good size for an older game .. but today way to small ...

The game is in many points very good - in the most other good, and only a few things can be improved (more or less ..)

But the cripled map size in MP make it "small" - even more, comparing to MP map sizes in actual X4 Strategic games ..

(even the "32bit only" Game stellaris have an way bigger map in multiplayer - this is very sad ..)

 

To the ship upgrades ....

It make in no rational way any sense, that upgrade your ship in free space to an other design (was is higly questionable anyway ...) is in the same way expansive, as doing this docked an an shipyard where job is to build this (and maybe bigger) ship with all the needed resources/many workers allready here ...

 

And with the option to set if the ship/fleet will fight or try to escape from an battle - the tactical speed get more importance - faster ships can get out if dangerous situations with only low damage or with no damage at all - slower ships have the bad luck ..

(the settings for this can be bound to ship/fleet power ratio or anything that make sense - maybe additional race specific , heroic races cant escape and so one - many variations possible ..)
