Not seeing workshop ships in game

I know about the need to subscribe for the workshop ships while being in the game and I do get them to download to this folder: G:\Steam4\steamapps\workshop\content\226860.  Where are they supposed to go in the GCIII folder structure so that I can see them in Download when I go to the shipyard?

I did ask about this on the Steam forums and I followed the suggestions there, but still no luck:  I was able to see a workshop ship if I copied it to 'Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Designs' , but only in the Ship Designer section. I did not see it in the Civ Builder section and when I tried to download a ship from the workshop on that screen, it did not update.

I do not see this new ship in any of my saved games. Do you need to start a new game for the ships to show up?

I honestly don't know about ships, but I do know that you do have to start a new game to see the effects of a mod after you install it.

To see a ship in the Civ Builder it must be saved as a template, if it's saved as a ship design it won't appear.

Thank you for the information.  My goal is to get ships that I downloaded into the game when I play the established factions instead of use the ships that come with the faction.  Is that even possible or are downloaded ships usable only with custom factions?

By "established faction" you mean the standard ones (like Terran Alliance, Drengin, Yor, etc.)? If so, unfortunately you can't (unless you modify the ShipClassDefs file in the game's main folder, which is highly unrecomended).

There is a bug in the game, relative to Steam Workshop, and some of the mods may not appear in game.

Check this thread here with the PDF:

It's item 19 on his list.

Once you do that, you will be able to use the ships you got on Steam Workshop.

Doesn't matter if you play Terran, you can still design your own custom ships.  What you can't do is, say, have the Terran Corvette look like something else.  But if you're really attached to the name, it could be "USS Corvette" and it would work.

At lower difficulty levels, the AI will use the default ship models.  At some higher level of difficulty (I can't remember which), it is supposed to also look through your ship designs and use them appropriately.

Anyway, once you have done this steps, go to the ship designer, design a new ship, select the models from the list and save it with the name you want (can be the same name or anything else you want).  Go back at the designer, you will see your ship model, use that design then add the engines, weapons, defenses, modules you want and save it again under the same name.

It will not replace the default designs of the ships for the faction you play, but it will let you create any ship you want from these hull designs.

Creating a custom faction, you could mimmick the Terrans and have your own pre-established fleet, but I'm not sure how that works, I haven't played much since before Crusade. :)
