Game is crashing to desktop when I load my save games.  debug.err shows this error:

In the case of Shiggins8888's save the save looked to be corrupt. We weren't able to find a way to resolve that. But tchchrs if you have a save that crashes on load we would love to see it. Maybe if there is a pattern it will help us identify the cause.

I'm also having a problem where the game crashes to desktop when I load a save but I don't have anything like the above in my debug.err to suggest what the problem is. One thing I've noticed is that all the saves that don't load are significantly smaller to the last working one. Is this also true for you as well?

Have you found this issue on more than one game by any chance? I haven't tried starting another game because the first one has taken so long.

I either have to go back to an auto save game (sometimes the autosave are corrupt as well) or start a new game

Do the save games have a "~" at the end of their name when loading?

That usually happens when you exit from the the game before the save if finished, wait until the game is saving message is gone.

All of my save game names look fine, no different from the working ones. I also wait until the saving game message has disappeared before continuing. I've also continued for hours after a save before without releasing they are no longer working. The saves were around 23MB each, but they are 5.8MB for the ones that don't work.

I've been testing this a little bit. I've seemingly found some slightly odd behavior and perhaps a possible workaround. Previously I reloaded a working save and tried to continue from there, but it got to the point where each time very shortly afterwards the save games were corrupted again making continuing my current game impossible. However I tried reloading the last save game that worked, doing a turn and then making a new save. I then quit to the desktop and reloaded the game again and carried on. Every time I've made a save since then I've quit to the desktop and started up the game again and loaded the new save. After doing this I've now got much further without any issues. It seems that lots of frequent saving maybe causing this issue, and restricting to a small number of saves such as 1 or 2 and then reloading the entire game gets around the issue. I also think saving frequently maybe pushing up ram usage as well as I've seen ram usage get to near 100% while saving the game (I have 32GB in my system). This didn't seem to happen with fewer saves. My current game has 4 remaining players in an immense galaxy with abundant habitable planets and gifted difficulty.

Further to the above, it seem's loading a game and then going to the menu and loading a different save is a no no late game. It takes ages to load the save and then doesn't seem to save properly afterwards.
