Bugs in V3 Beta

Here are some bugs I have found in the V3 beta.

Paxton's Emporium

Paxton's Emporium has this in its xml description:
<IsGalacticWonder>true</IsGalacticWonder>
<IsColonyUnique>true</IsColonyUnique>

This description indicates this is “The one-of-a-kind intergalactic trade show ….”, so why is it also one per colony.

Also, in one game I had a chance to build it, but someone beat me to it, and it was deleted from my build queue. After a number of turns (don't know how many) of it not being in the list of things I could build, I found it listed again as something I could build. I started building it again, someone beat me to it again, and it was deleted from my build queue again. Why was it available to build the second time? I have a save that shows it being built the second time. I have looked through all the other planets for the first one that was built, but I was never able to find it. I don't know if that means I missed it or if something happened to it. If something happened to it, I have no idea what it could have been.

Build More Than One of One-Per-Race Planetary Improvements

In my post about Crusade Bugs – Part 2, I reported about this. The Import Export Center can be added to the list.

Universal Translator

Early in a game I can't understand anybody because I don't have Universal Translator. Later I can understand them, but I still don't have Universal Translator. I know this is for the conversation windows that pop up over the galaxy. I'm not sure if it allows me to make trades in the trade window. I get the impression that if the alien race has Universal Translator, the game treats it like I also have it. This does not happen in Crusade.

AI Starbases Mining Bazaar

I first noticed this in Crusade. I don't know if it started then or existed in Mercenaries. The AI love to build starbases to mine/research Bazaars. If there are resources nearby, the AI will build to get as many resources as possible as long as it can get the Bazaar also. If it can get more resources by leaving out the Bazaar, it will choose the Bazaar instead of the extra resources. If there aren't any resources near the Bazaar, the AI will still build a starbase to mine/research it.

This seems to be much worse in V3 beta. I have some saves that show the existence of this, but not why the AI did it.

Are you saying this only occurs in the base game?

I have only been playing Crusade until the V3 Beta became available.  It does not happen in Crusade.  It does happen in the V3 beta that is available.

Ah OK, so it's for V3.

Though that does sound like intended behaviour. You can talk to them if they don't have Universal Translator, so they should be able to talk to you if they have it, but you don't.

Backing up Rhonin_the_wizard: Frankly, does it matter who has Universal Translator? The fact that it's Universal for me means it can translate any language into any other language. So I can tell what the Drengin are saying and my gibberish to them becomes Drengi talk because I'm communicating with my Univeral Translator.

I'm guessing that's not how Stardock intended the UT to be taken, but that's how it seems to be. As I've never done Multiplayer, I've got no idea how it works in that realm.

I mean, you could have a research line under Diplomacy that means you research more and more alien languages so your Universal Translator becomes better at translating (and not autocompleting incorrectly, starting a war when that was not the intention!) as time goes by but, frankly, that would be a bit boring. "Woohoo! My race can talk with 25 other races now! Damn! My ships are getting smashed because I spent time researching Alien Languages 2 that I should have spent on Point Defences 2!"

Hi,

I haven't found any bugs yet but it does feel very different.

I carried on my previous 2.8 settings of playing in an allegedly Huge  galaxy at Genius  and tried the United Earth a couple of times for a few moves.

Firstly, it feels very crowded like they've shrunk the map again intentionally or otherwise. I haven't bothered to look for the settings in the files but has anybody else noticed this?

Also the AI now seems much more aggressive. I had a colony ship near  a Snathi surveyor about move 12 and they attacked and salvaged it . V sensible AI behaviour if vexing for me. Previously, I'd never seen the AI declare war before  move 30 say.

With these settings and their ships moving twice as fast as mine in the opening it looks almost unplayable at genius.  I don't know whether this was Brad's intention but it seems a bit unnecessary because if you can survive the opening then it's quite enjoyable at that level.

The other thing is that everybody seemed to be able to talk to me even around move 10 which suggests that maybe they've been given the Universal Translator out of the box.

Cheers,

Jon

The maps seem a bit smaller to me as well.

I guess I noticed it, but it didn't really register with me.  I have been keeping track of the galaxy sizes since the Alpha, so I checked to see how the current ones compare with Crusade.  The two smallest have increased in size a little, four have decreased in size and the rest are the same.  Here they are with green showing an increase and red showing a decrease.  These are the HexSectorSize from MapSizeDefs.xml in the Crusade directory with V3 Beta installed.

Galaxy Size Crusade V3 Beta
Tiny 20 28
Small 36 40
Medium 50 50
Large 90 70
Huge 120 90
Gigantic 180 120
Immense 250 150
Excessive 300 300
Insane 500 500

Some of you may need to start playing with galaxies one size larger than what you have been using.  I have been playing Large or Huge, so I need to go to Huge or Gigantic.

After I captured a colony I put it to "Aid Economy". It said it will take 5 turns.

In every turn it asks me again what to build (not after 5 turns). The build list is empty every turn, and I put again "Aid economy".

There was no auto build for that colony, and the problem didn't appear in any other colony in the game.

Don't have a savegame - it was 2 days ago and only now I thought to visit this forum

That's because you also captured the colony's accumulated excess production.  Until you burn through it,  you will be able to build things in one turn.   I usually will use large amounts of the accumulated excess production to recruit citizens when it becomes available. ;)
