Stacking Commanders and Admirals

??? I've suddenly lost the ability to stack commanders with admirals or other commanders. I'm in the middle of a game, that I started a week after  2.7 came out. This completely ruins my whole strategy. I've put a lot of hours into this one game. Fleets I had weeks ago, still have an admiral and commander, but if I take one out, it cannot rejoin. New fleets cannot stack them either. :/ I have all of the expansions, and yes I'm using mods, but I've used this group of mods for two 2.7 games.

Is this a glitch? Or is how it's supposed to be? I'm a little ticked this will the 2nd big game I've had to stop playing, after several weeks of playing. The other was when 2.5 ruined my 2.33 game.

As of version 2.8 Commanders are no longer stackable.

OK but I'm playing a 2.7 game, which still has fleets with multiple commanders in them. Besides an admiral is very different than a commander. There's no logistical bonus, no speed bonus either. The new rules make admirals inferior to commanders. You guys when you update a game shouldn't break existing games. This is the second time, and I'm about to move on to a different game, and stop wasting my time and money on GalCiv3!

PS. Thank you for your quick reply. I understand why the changes happened. But it broke my game again. I'm too far along to change my strategy now. The whole plan was large fleets with a commander and an admiral. I've several commanders and admiral waiting for fleets that I've been building. Wasted resources, wasted 100s of turns. I'm pissed.

Nothing is wasted. If you built the fleets right they will still be very powerful. You can also get mercs to buff the fleets. Seems like a silly reason to be upset.

Look I get it. But I had a specific design for my fleets, that won't fit now. Huge/large capital ships, large escorts, medium assault ships, and small interceptors, plus transports and guardians. Now I can still do it, but with a lot less assault destroyers. And I don't have room for the medium guardians either. Not to mention my waiting admirals which are wasted, citizens take a while to get.

I was upset, because they force these patches on us, whenever they  want. I wanted to finish an epic size game before the rules change. I was on turn 243, and was ready to attack two neighboring enemies, when this happened. A war I was planning for since early in the game.

I like most of the new rules, though I wish they would concentrate on fixing issues like station legion, which gets very tedious when you have 70 planets. Patches if they are automatic should not change existing games.

Fleets with 2 commanders can actually save the day - particularly in the early part of a game when the AI fires up those mass wave attacks.  Disappointed it's no longer available.

Varied as there are 74 total empires in my current game. 4 : The Precursors, The Dread Lords, The Vorlon Empire, and The Borg are set at genius. 49 are set gifted. The last 20 I tweeked to be minor civilizations, and set between normal and easy. I also set up 12 starting faction pairs, the Drengen and Korath Clan being one example.

Yeah that happens a lot.  I have about 1800 hours of playtime, but only actually FINISHED maybe 6 games. Granted most of the ones that I don't finish is because I just get bored with the game; but many games I have also quit because a patch has messed them up in some way.

Change your strategy. The commanders can still used on other fleets. Win with a different strategy. Seems simple enough.

Still seems like complaining about nothing. I'm glad they make the game harder.
