Enemy Speeds

I haven't played for a while, so it is entirely possible i am missing something obvious, however...  I start up a new game and find all my opponents colony ships have anything from 10 to 16 moves per turn, started up a few more games in case there was some kind of crazy event that made that happen but it seems not.  I read that the AI does not "cheat" so this confused me a lot.  When i checked the ships, it showed they had just 1 basic hyperdrive so +1 move, even factoring in race speed I could not work out how they had these fantastic movements.  Am i missing something obvious?

There are traits, events that could increase move speed. But 10 for all civs is excessive.

The AI gets bonuses at higher difficulties, but only at Incredible and up would these really affect move speeds.

I suggest you verify integrity of game files. To verify cache integrity right click on a game in your Steam library, Properties, Local files tab and then click the Verify integrity of game files.

If the problem persists please upload a save game and post it here so someone could take a look at it.

My brief return to the game told me that godlike AI has +1 flat move bonus AND +200% movement speed modifier. I understand +1 flat bonus, I understand insane economy bonuses, but the +200% movement speed? That's just blatant cheating. And that is the reason why my return to this game was a brief one.

Makes no sense to fault the game for those transparent cheats by the AI. They are added because some players want the AI to have outrageous cheats at the godlike level.

Just play on a lesser difficulty. It is not like you are forced to play against those cheats

That blatant cheat made me simply annoyed. How am I supposed to outsmart the AI when they can just zerg rush me? How am I supposed to protect my space assets when the AI can alpha strike everything I own on the first turn of war? Heck, how am I supposed to GET any resources when the AI can outrun AND outproduce me. This isn't a challange, it's an exercise in restarting the game. Heck, I had to turn off the pirates altogether as my first colony ship died the moment I send it anywhere. The AI obviously had no troubles with pirates.

The biggest problem is that this game is simply boring. On lower difficulties the AI is so dumb that a bunch of monkeys could outsmart it, on higher ones it's so annoying that I simply don't want to play anymore. Oh, it is STILL dumb as a brick. Just a very fast moving brick aimed at player's face.

Thank you for the replies, did i misread the part that said the AI does not cheat?  I am glad it's not a bug and at least i understand now.  While I would not be quite as blunt as Roman he does make a good point.  At lower levels the game is very easy, more importantly the AI is very bad, then at higher levels rather than having a better AI it simply "cheats".  Again I could be wrong here, but when i first read about GC3, didn't it say it had some sort of adaptive AI that learnt from all players and would improve?  It's my criticism of so many turn based strategy games that the AI is simply nowhere near good enough and no games designer seems to think it is a priority.

Ok they are right at normal difficulty which is the difficulty the ai uses with no bonuses to no one. Lower difficulty the player gets bonuses. At higher diffuculty the ai gets bonuses. The ai gets no more information than you. Its just good at math where through averaging makes it good at predicting. It uses the ratings to figure out what kind of syradegy you are currently using.

Now if you play godlike expect the ai to get bonuses. If you dont like the bonuses play a lower level.

I would like a better ai mean harder ai not just bonuses, but right now the ai is at its smartest at normal difficulty. If you increase level it gets bonuses. Anything stardock says its meant towards normal ai. Yes the ai gets bonuses above normal difficulty.
