Technology Victory

A quick question on Technology Victory..

For those that have played on the more insane-side-of-the-spectrum map sizes.  How is the 'technology victory condition' work out for you guys?  Can you even conquer the galaxy before someone somewhere completes the tech vic path?  Does is scale with galaxy size?

I've been playing on the more medium-sized galaxy sizes and it's never an issue, but was curious how it worked on the super-big ones..

As far as I know the tech rate does scale (slow down) somewhat for the larger map sizes.  I tend to play on the larger maps, and I've never had a problem with an AI beating me with a tech victory because I'm beating them with one first XD

So maybe not the answer you were looking for ... I rarely try to conquer everyone else on those large maps, I usually get a tech or alliance victory instead.

On an Excessive map with 15 Gifted opponents,  I can take a tech victory before I have completely explored the galaxy.  Once, I did the work of taking out 3 factions.  My research rate just kept building with each new planet and spiking up on the graphs.  Even without that, none of the other factions have a research rate anywhere near my obsessive levels.  More important, none of them seemed particularly research focused compared to the others according to the graphs.  I have heard claims they will pursue victory conditions.  I have not seen evidence of an active competition for a Tech victory.  My expectation is that even if they are not keeping up with me, one or two of them should be noticeably outpacing the others as evidence of a faction preference or plan.  If others have seen something like that, I would be interested.

.....  wait... people don't just shut that victory off by default?

.... I find it the easiest way to win the game....  perhaps not now that you need several things researched but yeah

The Altarians (at least pre Crusade) often go for a Tech-Victory,

if they get a decent amount of planets early on and you are distracted with war,

they can actually win the game (already happend to me xD)

So how you manage to win conquest victory on bigger maps. I play on large map with 10 gifted AI. I am winning the game but, it is really tiring to conquer every planet even large maps. I can't imagine ludicrous maps.

Do you fight multiple battles. I generally focus on one race, finih it off then declare war another. And it takes too long.

I always shut off the technology victory option off, because it is too easy and cheesy to win that way in my experience. Things may have changed since Crusade came out, it might be more challenging to win by technology victory now. I doubt it though.
