Larger maps for multiplayer

Hey guys, I am pretty new to GalCiv3 and recently got the crusade dlc.

now I love playing large maps with my brother in multiplayer and pre-crusade one could edit the MapSizeDefs and just copy the insane values into the small mapdefs and play an insane map by chosing small in multiplayer.

Now with crusade this doesn't seem to work anymore, changes do only work if implemented via the mod folder in /mygames/.

Is there any way to get it back to work that way?

kind regards,

If you did this by editing the actual game files, that is no longer available.  The core files will not accept edits.

ah, too bad.

yes that was how it was done, can't start multiplayer with mods enabled I guess :(

While I'm not sure of any methods to do it now, it is confirmed that the larger map sizes will eventually be released for multiplayer.

just as a quick update:

you can edit the MapSizeDefs.xml in steamapps/[...]/DLC/EXP2_Crusade/Game and then delete the .bin files in [...]/EXP2_Crusade (Core.bin,GC3.bin,Options.bin/Particles.bin) and start GalCiv3, it then creates new bin files and takes changes in the game XML files.

If you want to play a larger multiplayer map you can edit the small-configuration(for example) and overwrite the data with the insane one and be able to play an insane map in multiplayer. (just don`t overwrite the InternalName part)

Note: changes to the game directory are not recommended and can cause bugs and errors.

Same can be done for factions with the FactionDefs.xml
