[Crusade] How does Approval actually work? Can they make it easier to understand and monitor?

Hi Guys,

Could someone explain in simple terms how Approval works in Crusade?

Also: does a higher population mean lower Approval?

At the moment - as far as my limited understanding goes - we are only informed of the current Approval level. We are not informed whether the Approval of a particular colony is due to either rise or fall next turn.

Wouldn't it be very handy to know this information?!

Thanks!

I agree. I love Crusade and all the changes they've made, but approval is a big black box. Every tooltip perfectly explains how you get your research, manufacturing, etc, but appoval, no idea why it is so low. No idea what the exact effect of an approval building is. This would really help.

1 morale = 1 population 100% approval.  The terminology is a little sloppy, sometimes it talks about morale and sometime approval.  Anyway, starting with nothing but a civilization capital, which gives 6 morale, you can keep a population of 6 100% happy.  If your population gets higher than that, your approval goes down.  If you add an entertainment center, +1 morale, you can now keep 7 population 100% happy.  Put that entertainment center next to an ideology building that gives +2 approval as an adjacency bonus, your entertainment center is now +3 and you can have a population of 9 at 100% approval.  Upgrade that entertainment center to an entertainment network (an additional +1) and you can now have 10 population at 100% approval.

The approval tooltip shows morale/population, from it you can tell where you are and how much more you need to keep your population happy.

In addition to the excellent explanation above, you can also get percentage bonuses to your approval from various techs, buildings, and events, and from working approval relics.  These bonuses will be listed on the approval tooltip as well.  They are an essential part of leveraging the approval system.  Keep those pixel people happy!
