Invasions. Am I Doing Something Wrong?

I brought 8 legions against the Altarian's 5. It said I had overwhelming technological superiority. The odds were something like 28 to 6. When I choose manual invasion and place my legions all around the capital I get totally obliterated every time, hardly doing a scratch. Yet when I choose quick battle I win easily. What gives?

I repeated this several times by reloading the game and get the same results. It's almost like the odds numbers are reversed when I choose manual invasion. Am I doing something wrong or this a bug?

There's a strange bug that I can't quite describe. Basically, some of your invader forces will sometimes just... not take the city, and that means you lose, even if there are no defenders. Happened to me twice, still have no idea how or why.

Very strange,  I have done many invasions and have not seen your problem.   You might want to open a ticket and send your save game (or put a link to your save here)

Forgot to save the save :(

The last time it happened, I reloaded the recent autosave, but couldn't reproduce the problem.

I'm still having this issue.

Download saved game example here.

In the example, try to invade Slyne Omega with nearby forces. The screen will say you have overwhelming power yet invasion always fails.

Either there are bugs at play, or i have no idea what the numbers on the invasion screen mean (or both).

I have also been having this issue.  Any solutions yet?

Just had my first battle happen when the Drengin invaded. I did not realise they had made a better planet battleground mechanic! Excellent.

When I clicked start the game crashed to desktop... 8C

Hi,

I've always placed all of my legions on the same tile - or split them between two if there's an extra city - and haven't had any problems at all.

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks!  I had no idea that you could place them all on the same tile.  That is very helpful!

Same thing here. No matter what I do I just can't take the planet.  Overwhelming forces, tech researched to max etc.  Lycan371, will take your idea, hopefully this will help, thx.

I confirm - I have the same exact experience. Unfortunately.

Ok got my battles working. I have not done an invasion yet, but I discovered that if things are a bit desperate, just place ALL your troops on the Capital city tile and you should win even with inferior (2-1) numbers, unless the enemy numbers are truly overwhelming. This makes a lot of sense since the Defender usually always has the advantage in a straight streets city siege.

Now if you`re attacking the reverse is likely true (if the Devs kept it realistic), which would mean you need THREE times the number of attacking troops at least to win a ground battle. I`m sure Tech levels affects this.

The numbers and stats on the pre-invasion screen just don't mean anything to me. I feel like if my big number is significantly bigger than their big number, I should be winning, yet i don't.

I don't understand why I win or lose.

I lost a fight where my relative power was listed as something like 1893475373843743 to 1

Hmm...

I have heard that before...

I heard someone say that besides the odds of wining an invasion, there's a mini-strategy on the battlefield that you must consider to ultimately win. So there is a strategy on placing your legions on the battlefield or else we would not have that option, and this is regardless of your odds. You favorable odds only gives you an advantage but you can still lose. Now I might be wrong and there might still be a bug. I also had a battle that I lost once when I had an advantage, but it doesn't happen often.
