Whap happened to map sizes??

Whap happened to map sizes??

Hi,

Just coming back to galciv 3 for crusade after a very long break and I go to my usual setup huge galaxy with around 10 players so plenty of space for everyone and you can build up before the inevitable war.

Map loads I zoom out to see where I am in the galaxy and..... what?? my first ship can cover half the galaxy with no tech, on abundant stars there must be no more than 100 so that leaves 10 stars per player and they dont even all have good planets so maybe 2-3 good ones per players and its so close to everything.

I tried the other sizes and insane map size seems to look like the old version of huge and they expect us to play 40-50+ players on that its so cramped its ridiculous.

when did the change happen? why?

I was literally playing yesterday and since crusade was installed, the maps have been ruined.

I haven't had a chance to play since the hotfix. Is it still that bad?

I just uninstalled crusade to check and yea it's a massive difference but i can't start a new game without crusade installed, it just crashes. It's definately crusade that has ruined the maps and the new game mechanics are awful. I wish to god i hadn't bought the DLC.

Ok I looked into this further and it does appear that the largest map sizes ARE smaller (in terms of sheer number of tiles. They are much larger in terms of number of objects).

Thanks for the confirmation and the update. Good response time to resolution, too.  Not a lot of companies can do that.

Just tried again after the hotfix. Same basic thing....Medium map, reduced the number of AIs by (from 9 to 7) and still only managed to get one colony (Mars...) before everything filled up. This is with everything else on default (so 'Common' for star frequency and habitable planets etc).

Just not sure why it's even vaguely desirable to play on cramped maps like this. Will try again on Large later but if the density of AIs to map size remains consistent, I'm not hopeful.

Can I ask was so wrong with the way it played out prior to 1.9 that prompted this change (which, by what I've read here and on Steam) isn't super popular?

the map sizes are now identical to the best game in terms of size.

Unless you start the game 5 minute before they patch it, it is not possible to have small map even on larger size anymore. They bring it back. I checked it. Pretty much confirmed that it is back.

I have never liked how small the "insane" map size is, even before Crusade. I just tried editing the MapSizeDef.xml file, but cant make a larger map. Any setting larger than 383 for HexSectorSize crashes the game. Is there any way to mod the game to make the largest map size around 500-600 hex's per side?

Been a while since you played EniGma?  I think the new ludicrous size is supposed to be around 500...

Base game has 380, Crusade has 500 for the largest map. The files for Crusade are in Galactic Civilizations III\DLC\EXP2_Crusade\Game
