Crusade Opt-In Game Freeze

When the Opt-In became available Monday morning I started a new game without mods.  After eliminating the Drengin, I saved the game.  I decided to play a few more turns to see what the Drengin ships that turned pirate would do.  The game froze right after that.  There was an update later Monday, but the freeze still occurs.

While testing the save, I noticed that some of the options are not available before the freeze.  Here are the steps to follow:

Load the save.
Press Esc to bring up the menu.
Notice all options are available.
Press Esc to close the menu.
Click "Turn".
Acknowledge 2 messages.
Press Esc to bring up the menu.
Notice "Save Game", "Load Game" and "Main Menu" are not available.
Press Esc to close the menu.
Click on "Idle Ship".
Click on "Pass".
Click on "Idle Colony".
Build one of the Projects and Done.
Click on "Idle Colony".
Build something somewhere and Done.
Click "Turn".
Some ships will move, then the game will freeze.
