Odd Pirate base distribution in GC3 2.0

This is my second game with V2.0, the first was on an immense galaxy where I didn't notice this behavior, and this game is on a medium galaxy.  Note that there are 6 pirate bases placed close together in the bottom left of the map:

I've explored most, but certainly not all, of the rest of the galaxy and found no other pirates at all.

Has anyone else seen this?  Maybe I've just hit a really bad random number generation for this map.

During Brad's work for the 1.9 update, he moved the pirates further away from the starting locations of the Races.  This reduced the locations where they can appear, so they tend to group together in smaller areas.  I have seen 9 pirate bases in a small area.

If you play with tight or loose clusters, some pirates show up in the empty spaces, but I have not seen a large number together in the empty spaces.

For all the star distribution options, more Races will result in less room that is far enough away from the starting locations, so the fewer pirates you will have, even on abundant pirates.  If you reduce the number of Races, you will find a lot of clusters of pirates.

As you mentioned, the random number generator will adjust things also.

Thanks, that explains that.  This map is with loose clusters, and that was about as far away as you could get from the starting positions.  By the way, it turned out that there were two more bases just to the left of the one in the upper left of my screenshot, for a total of 8.

Hmm, I've not seen that, but I usually play on excessive or immense sized galaxies. I also don't put stars or planets on abundant either so that might have something to do with it.

That could also affect it.  On my Immense game (where I didn't see it) I had stars on common, on this game I had them on abundant.
