Tight Cluster Map Generation

Question to Stardock,

Why does tight cluster map generation not form (if galaxy is large enough per player) as 1 tight cluster per number of player and, then place a player (ai or human) one in each cluster?

For instance currently I created an insane map with 50 AI with tight clusters, in this map I counted 36 tight clusters, with a large chunk about 1/4 completely blank and empty space.  But instead I get stuck in a tight cluster with 3 AI located in my cluster.  This would mean that some clusters have no player located and yet others have many, yet still much space that yet other clusters could be created to house separate AI.  So why is this and what can be done about it?

Thanks.

I would suggest two map types.

Tight Cluster Group

Tight Cluster Alone

Both map types have their + and - for what they will do and what people want.

Seilore I agree. I like the Tight Clusters and I like the idea of each empire being its own island until they stretch out to other clusters. Distant Worlds does a good job in map generation with each empire its own island the 'varied clusters' settings.

I don't see this as a problem at all. It shakes it up a bit.

I'd also like a one cluster per major civ setting.

For me tight clusters generates often maps that have everything packed together in one or two clusters, but these together cover only ca. 50% of the map - the rest is empty space (maybe resources, but no stars/planets there). I moved away from tight clusters because of that.

I have no problem with tight clusters as they are now. But more options never hurt ;)

End of GalCivius's quote

I observed the same thing and have been using loose clusters ever since.

I would like an option to evenly spread me and my opponents out. Since the computer doesn't count empty space, just objects. I would also have an option to have just as many stars on tight clusters as scattered stars.

Lay open the formulas and make the parameters moddable?
