After watching the video in Brad's post about the Civilization Builder coming in Crusade, I decided I should make my personal conversation mod available to everyone.
After playing enough games I had most of the conversations memorized. I had also thought of different things I would like to say to the AI, but they weren't available as choices. I knew it wouldn't matter to the AI, but I really wanted to say something different sometimes. I decided to see if I could add conversations and found out that I could.
I have added new conversations in many places. Some of these are race-specific like in the game, so they only appear when you are playing the right race and meet the right race. Others are generic and appear in general conversations. I have not added new conversations everywhere, so you will always get the original conversations in a lot of places. All the original conversations are still there, so you may get one of them instead of a new one.
Sometimes I would have a conversation with a custom faction and not know for sure which one I was talking to. In one game I had four factions that looked like the Terrans from the game but weren't them. It was difficult to know which was which, so I edited many of the conversations to have them identify themselves.
While adding the new conversations I also corrected all (I think) the spelling, grammar, punctuation and factual errors. I considered it a factual error when the conversation didn't match the reality of the game. An example of a factual error is the conversation that occurs when an AI wants to buy a starbase because it has an Ascension Gate. This is an error because an Ascension Gate is built on a planet. The starbase actually has an Ascension Crystal. There are other factual errors dealing with money and time that I corrected. You may be surprised when you see them.
While doing the editing I realized the text could be formatted in various ways, so I did that in some places. You will see those when they occur.
If you use this mod, don't click through the conversations. Read them to see if you got a new one. You may get a good laugh or a good groan.
I don't know of any other mod that changes the conversations (files containing "flavortext" in the name), so this mod should be compatible with all other mods. Any mod that does change the conversations will not be compatible with this mod. This is an English-only mod since it changes the English versions of the files.
The mod name has 6 digits at the end. This is the date of my latest changes in the MMDDYY format. I make changes regularly, so this is the way I keep track of the newest version.
You can get the mod here.
Unzip the file into your mods directory and enable mods to use this.
I have no idea how this will work when Crusade is released.
