Help...what's with the surrender routine?

Okay...I was within two planets of cleaning my opponents clock when he (Iconians) surrendered all of their assets to Arceans. I am allied with all the rest of the major players but the victory screen insists that the Iconians still exist. I can see no Iconian assets anywhere on the map, but in the timeline and in the graph section they are not at zero like the other three opponents I exterminated. What am I missing?

have you passed one turn after the surrender?  To make it "effective", you need to change turn, so then you'll get a message saying they were exterminated.

I thought of that and played two more turns out but get the same result that the Iconians still have a positive though minimal point count (4) on the power graph and timeline. I can see no holdings left anywhere on the map...ships, starbases or anything...go figure?

They may have ships left, and my guess is they are "under" one of the planets. When a faction swaps because of influence or surrender, any ships that were on the planet rarely move out from under that planet.

Had this happen once ages ago.

Turns out what was left of their pathetic government were holed up in a space station in the middle of nowhere :)

You can turn off the option "Fight to the last ship" or whatever its called in options under custom game.

As long as a civ has like 1 ship left, they are consired still in it to win it.

Also, there is sometimes a bug that flags "Pirates" from a Starbase, Shipyard etc as being from the previous race, and you need to kill the pirates.

Question on ships (near/under) a planet? How do you kill them. I try to move my ships to attack but instead they dock with the planet?

Step 1:  Build the Hyperion Planet Jump Drive

Step 2:  Start up the Planet Core Engines

Step 3:  Hyperspace Jump to a nearby star system

Step 4:  Kill the bastards under the planet

End of Kraegor1977's quote

oohhh... Hyperion Planet Jump Drive, that's a new thing, right?  I haven't played since spring.  Can't wait for winter to come! :)
