This idiot cannot do math.....

That idiot is me...... Larsenex!

Can someone please post how many hexes the insane map is and the dimensions? I guess length x width..... I am over on the Civ VI forums and they don't believe a game needs a big map (like we have). So I wanted to pull out the numbers and say this is the size of <our> maps..sure Civ VI can have them as well.....

868681 hexes.

Think about it like this: there is one hex in the middle. Around this there is a ring of 6 hexes, the next ring has 12 hexes, the next has 18 hexes ... and so on. The number of rings is called <HexSectorSize> in the MapSizeDefs.xml 380 for insane. Thus you have:

1 + 6 times the sum of all n from 1 to 380

This sum can be expressed as (n+1)*n/2

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_%2B_2_%2B_3_%2B_4_%2B_%E2%8B%AF

Thus you have 1+6*(n+1)*n/2 with n being HexSectorSize. Have fun calculating out the numbers for the other sizes; free math lesson by zu, you are welcome ;P

Also: Insane has a maximum of 600 habitable planets. Ask them if they ever had a game with 600 cities :P

You can change the Max habitable planet count I have 700 in my Imense map :)

I like crowded maps!

EDIT:

What Thread is that discussion going on in Larsenex? NVM I found it.

Firaxis doesn't like big maps. They suck like that.

I hear their planning to come out with a bigger one.

I hope they improve optimisation then as even the current largest makes system go slow...particularly if you're loading a saved game!

You are correct, I forgot the division by two apparently.

No promises but we are looking at improving loading times...
