Paul was going to do it with his free time.

I guess he does not have any yet.

What tools are required most by modders?

GCIII Tech Tree Editor is nearing the end of Alpha, so should go in Beta soon.

Which means I will be free (less busy) to look at the possibility of developing other tools, unless Stardock release some tools first.

I don't necessarily need a tool; but a guide (at least) would be nice for creating a (new) star system for my (new) faction.  But, yes, a tool for doing such would be even better.

A star system creator for homesystems would be extremely helpful.

Can you elaborate on what you would want the tool to do?

A simple series of drop down menus that allow one to create all XML entries needed for a custom star system.

Choice 1) # of Stars.

Choice 2) Type of Star #1, Type of Star #2

Orbit Layer #1) "Click to add object"

Orbit Layer #2) "Click to add object"

Orbit Layer #3) "Click to add object"

Click Export to Create XML Entries

Etc.

Having looked at the files needed for a Star System Creation tool, there's a few things I am not clear on.

What's the difference between <LaneType>DeadZone</LaneType> and <LaneType>NoRandom</LaneType>

Looking at the default StarSystemDefs.xml, some systems start with a lane type of DeadZone and others start with NoRandom.

Swapping them around or changing all lanes types to one particular type doesn't seem to have an effect.

Also I assume that 3 orbit lanes is a general rule of thumb for max # lanes?

I just need to be clear on what rules to enforce in the tool.

Deadzone = No habitable plantes. Only dead ones.

NoRandom = Do not place random planets here.

I do beleive this is for the map generator more than anything.

Thanks, makes sense.

I have a working Star System Creator tool as suggested by Gauntlet, just needs some final testing.

Doesn't support custom Stars or Planets mod ATM.

Unfortunately I am off to see GnR tomorrow in London so won't have time to release it until Saturday.

Sneak preview.

Treborblue can you link your random starsystem creator.

@Admiral

Its not ready yet. I will release soon. (Saturday)

FYI its not a random creator, you select the system yourself for your custom faction.
