Playing offline

Whenever I try to open galactic civ 3 or any other steam game steam just opens up and tells me to log in. I can't open these games without being logged in to steam. But I speciically bought this game because it said you DIDNT need an internet connection to play it.

How can I play the game without being on steam? I installed it to my computer.

You need to play once while online, and according to Stardock the map pack DLC requires the game to be online all the time, you can disable the map pack DLC if you have it to run the game offline.

There may be one more DLC/Expansion needing to be online too, however, the game does run while offline.

Mercenaries does not work offline.  I wasted my 100 dollars being a founder.  I get free expansions I can't use.

Relax, I'm sure this will be fixed and as far as wasting your money, you can still play most of the game offline.

Yes I did waste my money.  I can only play base game.  I paid for expansions and dlc.  I can not play them.  Ergo, waste of money.  If you want me to relax send me the difference between founder and base game.

Does anyone know why the Maps DLC (or any other) requires being online and whether that is true if you bought it from GOG?

I kind of thought that Mercenaries 1.61 demanded a live connection because it is an opt-in beta, and I'm really hoping it will not be there for normal update versions.

Stardock said this requires Steam being online for some reason or another.  I'm not sure on the specifics, however, that is what was said in another post.

This I don't know and I would assume eventually it will be fixed that one could play offline.

And you are able to play the entire game online, ergo you have what you paid for.  As far as offline the only parts that are not currently playable offline as far as I know is Mercenaries (which I haven't heard any reason why this is requiring online at the moment and would assume will eventually be corrected to allow one to play offline as well) and the map pack which unless you are needing to design a map at the specific time that you have no Internet connection than shouldn't be an issue.

Since you seem to know it all, go ahead and enlighten me on how I split my time between off and online play. Go ahead and explain how the product I purchased not working as advertised is money well spent.  Its like paying extra for AC and radio in car, not getting it, then being told by some fanboy to roll down the Windows hum a tune and be happy the engine works.

Incorrect analogy with the radio btw.  It's more like wanting to detail the car while in motion and saying that you can't do that, as far as the map pack.  I'm not arguing that Mercenaries should be able to play offline, all I'm saying is give them a chance to fix it and make it offline.  As for being a founder I am sorry that you feel you wasted your money, I don't see the founder emblem under your name so I assumed you purchased the game/dlcs expansions after the fact.

As far as being a fan boy, you're right I stand behind Stardock and support their products.  I would be lying if I said I've never been frustrated with anything that they've done or various problems with this game in specific, however, I do give them a chance to come back and fix any issues that I'm having with the game.

This is the last post I will be posting regarding this subject as this is going down the incorrect path at this point.  I do hope you can enjoy the game in the offline mode eventually, good luck.
