Why can I ask AI to start a war... but not End a war?

So why is there an option to ask the AI to Declare war on X party.....

But not one where you can ask them to Make peace with  X party?

I was most of the way to a Diplomatic Victory when the  Altarians (Benevolent)  declared ware on their neighbors the Torians  Also Benevolent    Both of them were previously my allies...

So then the Torian's asked me to help in their war effort and I said no...  so they killed the alliance.

Rather annoying that I didn't have an option to ask them to make peace.

Also annoying that the AI still doesn't quite seem to play by it's morality...        There should be a Pacifist option or something in the Benevolent Tree that "will not declare war unless attacked or aiding an Ally against an aggressor."

well, if that was the case, I think it would hamper the ability of the AI to win games.  Expansion is mostly done through conquest after all.

Not true..

Benevolent has bonuses to diplomacy and influence..   I have won games as Benevolent without building a single troop ship...

Granted it took building a metric crap ton of culture stations but culture flipping should be one of the biggest means by which a benevolent AI plays...

Benevolent cultures should also be able to create alliances much earlier in the game...    thus when their Allies inevitably get attacked by the war monger races they will have ample ability to build troop ships and win via war...

oh and before you ask...   if you hold off on the "everything in your territory joins you"  benevolent purchase  until after you have basically built enough stations to blanket the malevolent flip resistant planets...     that becomes the I win button...

as long as said empires are close.  If they are on the other side of the map, the AI will have difficulties holding on to these planets.

Sure.  But I don't think the AI could ever reason in that way, no more than it could pursue the 3 ideological branches at the same time on an immense map.

The fact that Human players Can "game the Game" and pursue three ideologies at one time is in and of itself broken.

But that's a whole different discussion...

Either way we should be able to negotiate for peace or intervene to stop wars...   That we cannot really works in the favor of the conquest victory being the most viable route to anything...

Yes, that I agree with you.  I did not agree with your first statement that an AI should be locked in a peacenick situation just because it is not malevolent.

in the old game when a race asked for peace you could negotiate like now but also make it condtional that they made peace with other races you selected which was great. galcivs 3 is lightyears behind 2 in diplomacy.

I'd like to second the OP. In my current game, I'm allied with 4 cultures.

Two of them are far weaker than I am and the recently went to war (the Torians were culture-flipping worlds from the very feeble Yor). Neither of them has asked me to go to war with the other yet (I am currently engaged with the fairly scary Drengin).

I do not want this brush war disturbing my back country or threatening my plan to get a diplo win after breaking the filthy fang-faces. Hence the Nth time I pined for a "make peace with" option in the trade UI.

I don't agree with benevolent races not declaring war it could prevent you from losing the game. It would also give malevolent an unfair advantage.

I could see a diplomatic option of threatening wormongering factions to stop going to war.

I must agree that diplomacy in GC3 needs major upgrades when compared to what it was in GC2.

Agree, and i think we will see it but sadly probably not until the next major expansion next year.  I'll bet (hope) we see minor improvements with continuing patches
