New to Game ...

Just bought GC3 on Steam, never played any of the series before. Looking at a seemingly vertical learning curve and wanted some help. Maybe I am a poor player but can not seem to win even the tutorial on Beginner. I get everything except kill the Drengen (sp). I do not seem to have the ability to travel the distance to get there with anything other than a scout ship. What am I missing, also are there any good Tutorial / Game walkthroughs that explain whats going on so I can learn as opposed to getting frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

Well i guess if you don't understand how range works then that is going to disable your ability to function in the game more than anything else.

Presumably you will not want to mess with designing ships at this stage, so the simplest option to extend range is to build starbases in the direction you want to extend range.... but be advised, the AI loves to destroy starbases, so you have to defend it.

Really the bulk of what you learn in this game is about improving efficiency, and increasing strength. So on low difficulty level you don't need to worry about all that, you can just plod along however you want and you will do just fine :)

I was in the same place as you, and almost gave up on the game. Then I watched this video by Brad:

Which put the whole game in context for me. I think the tutorial is horrible for first time players, almost turned me away and did turn away one of my friends. But if you stick with it, its a very engaging game. I have over 300 hours now.

The Drengin are a tough opponent. It's easier as a beginner to start a random galaxy and get to know the game a bit before taking on the campaign. Even on easy you may crash and burn until you start to understand how everything works, but at least the AI civilisations will keep each other occupied so you have more room to move. :)
