On the purchase page, it states:
"Multiplayer Notice: Please note that the GOG Galaxy Client is required to access Multiplayer"

I'd suggest start by looking for that on GOG.

I wish I'd known it was going to be released on GOG, as I originally purchased it direct from Stardock to try and avoid Steam for it and ended up just being given a steam key anyway.

hi,

yes i had installed already the GOG galaxy,  you need to have that installed to even be able to access to the multiplayer screen .

but the issue seem the same that Steam users had before as not being able to see any multiplayer game ongoing inthe lobby

If you are playing the GOG version of the game, then you'll only see other GOG multiplayer games in the lobby.

It is not up to them. Learn what servers are.

I can purchase games from third parties that include a steam key or are able to communicate with one another. I can play my version of Sins of a Solar Empire, which I used to be able to access only through Impulse, with friends who purchased the steam version -- and this was always the case. Lots of multiplayer games available from multiple sellers that require different clients manage this just fine.

Because of what servers they use. The Steam version uses Steam's servers, the GOG version uses GOG's servers. It's not that complicated.

SO i should be able to see only the GOG players in thr multiplayer server game, fine for me ,  but the issue is still that I see NO game at all going on. So there should be only two possibilities :

1 ) there are 0 players  on GOg server that do multiplayer games

2) there is some setting (TCP ports that need to eb configured on my router)

becouse i think, and hope, that possibility 1) is more unlickely ,i opt for nuber 2) but to solve the issue i need to know what are those ports that i need to configure on my  router

CAN any one help ?????

You're best bet would be to ask on the GOG forums.

The only thing I can think of is to find someone else who bought the game on GOG and make an appointment to show up in the lobby.  That's what I did to first check out the MP when it came out.   I lost that game, badly.  :)   Otherwise, I don't usually do MP except for the occasional LAN game.

Network administrator here. Servers are software which provide a service to instances of client software. Sometimes they exist on big corporate networks, sometimes on PCs. The only thing that really defines what a server is is that it answers client requests.

It really is up to them. This is 100% determined by the game designers. They could have designed it to utilize a "dedicated server" which is a server you run on your home network. The downside to this is it sometimes requires complex configuration to work, and sometimes the communication is blocked by powers outside your control (your ISP for example). However the upside is that it makes troubleshooting much more reasonable for the end-user.

Stardock instead opted for a decentralized game server, which is all well and good, except I can't find my friend's GOG game from my GOG game while sitting in the same room, and you see this is a real problem, as I expected this game to actually work when I bought it.

If you hadn't noticed, this is the support forum. If you have nothing helpful or relevant to say, please don't say anything.

You may want to report those issues to GOG.

We use the GOG network for GOG players and Steam ones for Steam.
