Military Power Ratings Gone Crazy... & Other Nitpicks

Hello,

I was playing an insane map on Godlike with a custom faction (Thalan-based) vs all other factions and minor civs. I added a link to the saved games (at different # of turns for the same game). Apologies, it was started in v1.1 I believe, takes a while to win by ascension on insane... I noticed that partway through the game, the military power ratings under Govern - Timeline were going nuts, which carried the faction power ratings along with. BTW, I think that faction power is currently over-influenced by military power and doesn't reflect anywhere near the truth, but that is a separate issue that has already been discussed before. Back to the topic at hand, the odd part of this story is that my faction's military power dropped like a stone at one point, although I lost none of my ships (or anything else for that matter). So then I had weaker civs by far trying to bully me around, and I was getting negative diplomacy from being too weak. It was all very odd. A few other factions' military power ratings shot up insanely, although their military production hadn't increased so I couldn't really understand where this was coming from.

A couple other nagging details (that I can think of):

-Halfway through my game I couldn't trade with the Iconians anymore. More specifically, I couldn't see anything on their side of the trade screen except cash, so I couldn't select anything to trade for other than cash.

- Even with Research Victory off, I got the huge negative diplomacy from "pursuing a research victory". Victory conditions should be set from the start and AI should be aware of them.

- On larger maps (or maps with many habitable planets), research is too easy. I was able to research the entire tech tree before turn 200 (without any special effort). This is ok if research victory is off, but still seems unbalanced.

- I'd like to see the return of the "we've been friends for a while" diplomacy bonus, it only makes sense that long term friendships/treaties/allies mean more than new buddies.

- I'm also super interested in all the UI and AI improvements on the way, should improve the game a lot.

- Call me obsessive, but is anyone else bothered by the occasional typos throughout the game text? I could take a note whenever I see something and make a mention of it if the devs are interested...

That's all for now, hope the saves help even though it's an older version.

Update - Added timeline pics to the dropbox folder (see external link). Sadly, I couldn't figure out how to put them directly in the post...

I've seen this bug before. I think it's less of their military power rating going crazy and more of yours, judging from how you indicated that you were able to research the whole tech tree.

An easy way to replicate this bug is to get the precursor endgame techs and stack a ton of the +hp mods with the bane on a huge ship. Build enough of these ships, and your military power rating will essentially turn over to zero like an old pinball machine, resulting in the exact scenario you described above. The other civs were taunting me left and right, meanwhile I had planetkillers with 86 moves surrounding their territory.

End of quote

While I have no idea whether or not the developers are particularly interested, a reported typographical error is far more likely to be corrected than an unreported typographical error. You may want to check the forums to see if the errors you've spotted have already been reported; there have been several threads reporting these in the past.

@number65260 - Thanks for the reply. That is possible but I don't think that can explain all that is going on here... I'll try to add screenshots of Faction, Economic and Military power timelines for easy reference. You'll see that a few factions start spiking randomly (increasing A LOT over quite a few turns), and then after they pass me all of a sudden my rating drops like a stone (there your explanation seems plausible since it seems to drop from one turn to the next, although it begs the question why the AI factions weren't affected). As I mentioned before, I can't see how their ratings skyrocketed when they were increasing at a snail's pace before, and my rating dropped without any changes to me. Just wanted to bring this up in case it was an unknown bug.Faction Power

@joeball123 - Fair enough, I just didn't want to spend time reading through and noting the typos/errors if no one will care to fix them. I guess I'll start with the low-hanging fruit and see if there is any response, then go from there.

I too have the same bugs in the current steam non-beta version. I cannot see anything the Krynn have in the trading window and haven't been able to since I started building the fleet I am about to talk of next.

I built a fleet (25 ships) with 23,100 missile attack 220 missile defense, 1152 kinetic attack, and 6768 kinetic defense. Logistics are 54/55 and moves up to 49. While building this fleet my military power was all over and is now 0. I do have The Bane on all of the ships and Universal Integrity Field + Universal Displacement Field on most. When I attack my ship count jumps to 35 and stats jump to 2320 beam attack, 2384 beam defense, 26,200 missile attack, 308 missile defense, 2022 kinetic attack, and 6768 kinetic defense. I don't even have any beam weapons or shields but my fleet fires them....

EDIT: I just realized the additional stats and ships likely show up because of fighters launched from a support ship.

To add a little more - I'm playing on the largest map size and am currently at turn 631 with everything researched plus all of the additional tech I can purchase from other civs. Around turn 200 the shipyards and designer showed every single version of each built in ship so I had to mark a ton of them obsolete and somehow up to the end of the tech tree older ship version names would show up and have the same stats/builds as the latest versions. Now I have complete lines of ships that are gone because even the latest versions disappeared. Custom ships are all fine.
