No UP?

guys,

am in turn 300 or so and there is still no UP. Do i need to research that first? I encountered 3 major powers and 0 minors.

You have to encounter over half of the major civilizations for the UP to start.

I am not 100% positive but I think it is actually now 50% of majors and minors.  I've run into at least one game where the UP countdown wasn't triggered even though I had met 5/6 other majors.  Only when I contacted a few more minors did it trigger.

Might have miscounted somewhere along the line though.

Can anyone else say if they ran into something similar?

Games with lots I races are pretty tough to trigger the up, especially on insane maps

BTW is the trigger "human player finds 50% of the races" or "someone finds 50% of the races"?

It might be either, but with the way the ai "explores" I pretty strongly doubt the ai could trigger it on big maps with tens of factions if the player doesn't

I think it's the human player. I always play on insane maps, never less than 40 races...no minors. I have NEVER triggered the UP countdown. I have hit "FOW, and it triggered.

That got me thinking,

Galciv3GlobalDefs.xml has:

<ElectUPChairmanResolutionDef>ElectChairmanRes</ElectUPChairmanResolutionDef>
<ElectUPSupremeResolutionDef>ElectSupremeLeader</ElectUPSupremeResolutionDef>
<NumTurnsToFirstUPMeeting>25</NumTurnsToFirstUPMeeting>
<NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingRare>50</NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingRare>
<NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingRegular>25</NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingRegular>
<NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingFrequent>20</NumTurnsToNextUPMeetingFrequent>
<UPMeetingAlertTurns>5</UPMeetingAlertTurns>
<UPMaxFactionOptions>6</UPMaxFactionOptions>
<RejectedResolutionCooldown>2</RejectedResolutionCooldown>
<MaxResolutionsToShow>5</MaxResolutionsToShow>
<VoteRatioToWin>0.66</VoteRatioToWin>
<VoteRatioToWin>0.61</VoteRatioToWin>
<VoteRatioToWin>0.56</VoteRatioToWin>
<VoteRatioToWin>0.51</VoteRatioToWin>

End of quote

I'm not sure where the find x many threshold is, but this is clearly something that needs to scale with number of races.  Oninsane maps with dozens of races, it's almost impossible to trigger through other means than ~fow

Have you tried trading "exploration treaties" with some of the AI you have met? This speeds up the process a lot with the larger maps I've found.
