End Turn stuck on research

Patch: 1.2

Map size: Insane

Faction: Custom

Victory condition: Ascension

Basically I am unable to progress because the game is asking me to research when I have no research left to conduct. I have bought what I can from the remaining races (rest were wiped out earlier in the game). Now here's the peculiar thing. I finished the tech tree a considerable amount of time ago, all of a sudden it's just occured and going back to prior saves has not worked. Neither has restarting the game (and Steam). I'm now half way through a game and cannot progress because I do not control enough ascension crystals so if there is a fix or a way to force a turn I'd very much appreciate knowing it.

Thanks.

there are 2 things i can think off but im not sure if either will work

1) shut down research entirely considering your game i bet you have the benevelent trait which gives you research per planet so this likely wont help

2) find your races tech.xml and add in a random new tech with an absurd amount of research points and load up the game

im not sure though if this will fix your problem for your current game or only new games created after you change the xml

Thanks for the answer.

1. Didn't work. The problem I have is that I've already researched all techs so there is nothing to be gained by turning it off. What I needed to have done was turn it off on the last tech until I was ready for victory.

2. I'm fairly certain that would only take affect on a new game and, no offence, before I start poking around in XML files I'd like a more definitive answer.

Your issue is almost certainly this:

There is an issue with some tech trees (you don't say which you were using) where some techs do not show up in the non-tree tech selection screen.  Switch to the tech tree view and carefully check each branch.  I bet you'll find some unresearched techs that way.

Nope, it's certainly not because I checked that prior to posting here. The only ones I didn't have available were the ones where you have to choose one from three. What happened is this. I researched everything, played for at least another fifty turns with no trouble whatsoever. Then the Iconians (one of the selected races for the playthrough) contacts me with an offer of tech-for-cash for some of those multiple choice I didn't research. I declined the offer because I was in the progress of upgrading my fleets so couldn't afford the money at this time. The very next turn I couldn't progress because it insisted that I research so it appears that something in that contact triggered the bug, perhaps making the game think that I hadn't finished the tech trees.

But for the lack of a simple  'force turn' feature, this problem would not be an issue.

No idea, mate. How do I access the console, please and I'll check?

The console can be accessed through the ~ key in the top left of the keyboard

should be left of 1, above tab,  and below esc

Figured it out, despite the fact that the input menu gives you the option to assign a key to the console, you still have to add a launch property of -cheat before the console will work.

For steam, that means right click on it in your library, go to properties, then set launch properties and type in the following line:

-cheat

I'm in another game and reached a point where most tech trees are researched, only some inconsequential 'research' tree research left so I turned research off in the 'govern' window. I have 50/50 Wealth and Manufacturing  but I'm still completing research. This causes a major problem for Ascension victory conditions because there is no guarantee you will or can control enough Crystals in order to win the game before you reach the end of the research tree when playing on Insane map sizes. This game needs a 'force turn' option.
