Compatibility with GalCiv 3 aside - if you want to make sure that your computer is running over the weekend, you shouldn't upgrade to a freshly released windows version.

Stardock has stated and Frogboy specifically that GCIII will run fine on Win 10. If my download ever gets done I will update.

Technically, it's largely identical to Win 8 tbh. But yes, after the whole Nvidia screw-up on Thursday, I'd steer clear of updating for at least a month.

Would that explain what I saw with the "get Windows 10" app, and its icon disappearing from my task bar on all three of my PCs, one of which doesn't have a NVidia driver?  And why the icon suddenly re-appeared after I tracked down the driver and installed it?

At this point I am completely in the dark and am asking for any information anyone has on what happened.

OK. I just read the articles on the update fiasco. What I see is that Windows 10 takes away any choice in when and if someone wants to do updates. Is this correct? If so, this will cause problems with Early Access games where you must upgrade drivers to beta levels before the game will even work.

Stardock, if this is indeed what is happening, please add your considerable influence to the plea to get MicroSoft to correct this. I am also going to follow the NVidia forums on this.

As an experimentalist, I couln/t resist.    I upgraded to win10 today.   So far most things seem to work. 

Running on my administrator account, GC3 crashed after the loading screen displayed for a few seconds.

Running on a standard account, it seems to run fine.

I thought to check this because I know that on win 7, I could not get the SDSupport tool to run as administrator, but it  worked on a normal account.

I am an incurable early adopter so I took the plunge today.

So far so good. GCIII works okay as much as I have tested it. I had to delete SD Start 8 and SD Fences. I expected that Start 8 would be a problem since it was made for MS8-8.5, but it surprised me a little that fences didn't work.

I have been using Win 10 for a week now and the game runs fine.  Further, Win 10 manages RAM better than Win 7.  If you bring up Task Manager, you can watch as the OS seems to figure out how to manage RAM effectively.  When I first start my current game, it uses 7 GB (about 1 GB less than Win 7).  Within 20 minutes or so, the game RAM usage has dropped to about 3-4GB.  I don't know why, but it means that I can use my most complicated ship designs without slowing game performance (much).
