Microsoft: Bait and switch.

Microsoft: Bait and switch.

Microsoft is simply incapable of “getting it right”.

“Terry Myerson, Microsoft's Windows honcho, says the plebs have to wait in line, behind 5 million "insiders." And volume-license availability won't be until next month, either.” – Richi Jennings

So now this, on top of just who is entitled to a free upgrade to this gem, W10.

“Starting on July 29, MS will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders. From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.

Soon, we will give a build of Windows 10 to our OEM partners so they can start imaging new devices with Windows 10. The new devices our partners are working on are very exciting, I can’t wait to hear your feedback as you get a chance to use them.

Soon after, we will distribute a build of Windows 10 to retailers all over the world, so they can assist their customers with upgrades of newly purchased devices that were originally imaged with Windows 8.1.” – Terry Myerson (MS, Exec VP OSs)

So, this is like Seinfeld when he reserved a rental car, only to discover that car wasn’t available…

“See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to hold the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding.” – J. Seinfeld

Microsoft has a problem: They can’t write in clear, simple declarative sentences and they don’t do what they say they’re going to do, nor when they say they’re going to do it:

“On July 29, you can get Windows 10 for PCs and tablets by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer.”

This is dishonesty: “On July 29” does not mean “On or soon after July 29”. Never did, never will.

How about “We have a schedule delay” – that wouldn’t be anything new to MS customers. Sorry, folks: I’m just tired of the clowns who can’t get a simple “Who’s entitled to say what and when” straight.

They may be tech geniuses, but they certainly create ugly GUIs and even worse icons and they flunked High School English (and Honesty 101).

Really you see nothing wrong in the post #12 .... interesting must be a Buddie of yours then if my employee talked to my customer like that he would be on the EI line right after they said it.

must be an American aspect of looking at things, us Canadian just don't talk to people in that manner unless talk to first. but Hey I'm just a Canadian...

Leave Nationality out of it. I am Canadian too and I find both your responses in reply 20 and 24 condescending. I also do not see anything wrong with reply 12. Let it be noted that I am speaking on behalf of myself. I do not know benmanns and I am not buddies with Jafo.

And seeing as you think most people turn off their updates, well that's just ... well BAD advice.
End of DI_HAVOC's quote

That’s why I said it be might beneficial to force upgrades on certain users, since its a reality that people do start turning off updates once the system slows down.
I did NOT say its good to turn them off or gave the advice to turn them off.

If i offended you with the statement to get your facts right then I’m sorry and apologize... (Note that i wasn’t speaking of last year DEZ. I was speaking of the current known info put out there.)

As for the keys your key might got suspended because it wasn’t considered genuine or already in use.
A simple call can fix the issue that is if you actually own a genuine copy of course.
There is a pretty easy way of testing if you run a genuine copy

CMD
slmgr -xpr should open windows script host - telling you permanently activated
slmgr -dli should tell you if licend or not
slmgr -dlv rearm counter and version.

Aha ok... it wasn’t my intention, only I’m against misinformation when it reaches a certain amount, it’s just the way I work.
Also i would like to add that i did understand the rest of this post I´m just not replying to it.

Trying hard at the moment not to step over the line, it wouldn’t end up well.
Consider it a lucky day for us both, btw Hungarian living in Germany.
Also please note I’m not an employee I’m just a regular forum visitor if you read my upcomming advice.
My personal advice: it might be beneficial to your business to lose that hint of racism.<---

I wonder if win10  will have a bunch of bugs and hidden software to spy on you. Probably, but it has dx12. All that counts.

I heve been a user of the tech preview builds for win10 and reieved my full version this morning. I suppose there might be a delay for others, but mine arrived early...sweet

Just remember...if you choose the Home path, updates will be mandatory and without delay...so things might very well get "broken". I'd make VERY sure to be doing backups, and often.

What would be the difference between a machine with Win 10 installed and buying a copy of the OS and installing it on a blank HD. Do the same restrictions apply?

@Uvah as far as i can recall from the information put out there for public, the differnce would be that if you buy a copy you will keep your key ( if you only own a OEM or systembuilder version) of your previous windows your key will be consumed by the upgrade of windows 10 rendering your key only valid for windows 10 after 30 days or something close to that., unless retail only MS knows truly how that will go the information on retail is still very wonky.
Also it depends if you run home or premium for the updates you have only very little choice on home and will potentially recieve crucial updates as forced updates while premium users can delay them for a certain period.

I hope this makes sort of sense

wow accusation of Racism like wtf is your problem ..... if any one is racist it the one's who shout it out first ... Namely you Nothing i said had to do with racism you clearly have a inferiority complex, and how can i be racist if I'm French Canadian Native Indian and Irish , and I'm married to a Portuguese woman. I totally resent that claim and demand you retract that statement and apologize. Canada is the most multicultural country in the world and you call me racist. you may want to educate your self with the word racism. Accusations of this sort = Slander and defamation of Character and i do believe in the TOS your accusation is over stepping your right to accuse people of racism and or abuse accuse other people of mixed ethnic back grounds of racism.

In Fact im done here i wont return to this forum or support this company in any way and they will be hearing from me

You spew false Information, you get corrected.

You start personal attacks ('pudgy little basement dweller').

You play the nationality card (canadian vs american) and get called out on it.

And now YOU demand an apologie? XD

Did my research, there is nothing to be worried about, unless getting shot down in WORLD OF TANKS game by you.
And blown smoke upon on Deviantart. There is more but not worth mentioning.
BTW nice Beanie!

I don’t fear anything that comes from a guy like you.
Stardock has my personal information if you want to sue me, since I’m not taking back that statement of mine and I certainly won´t apologize to you.
Have a nice day.

Same old whining every time Microsoft comes out with something...  Your comments were all so predictable.  Either you want Win10 or you don't...  If you do then you'll get it when you get it, if you don't well I guess you really don't have a complaint.  STFU

Sad to see this...not the reason I post.

Not at all.

Please go back to the OP. There's more to Win 10 still.

If we could please stay on topic that would be great. If you find yourself in disagreement with another user, I find it's easier to discuss the actual topic, or avoid it entirely, instead of going after a user themselves.

That said, I'm excited for Win10 personally for gaming. As far as updates, I hope Microsoft still believes in allowing the user to manage their system without being an over-reaching big brother.

It wpould be great to know how long one can put off updating to Win 10 if at all.

eh.. depends on what you mean. you don't have to use windows at all. ever. but you might not be able to play a lot of games. and definitely won't be able to play dx12 only games (probably will take a while for that to happen).

aside from that. there might be some programs that are windows only. no idea what they are, but they probably won't be your average day to day usage ones.

obviously, when you buy a new machine, it'll probably come with win10.

I only use my machine for graphics work. No games at all. Even the ones preinstalled by MS. Those I uninstall. As for facebook...nope.

As for the Games part there are no games released supporting DX12 yet.
One of the upcomming would be fable.

So there is no real need from a Gamer perspective to immediately jump to windows10.
I would even say that waiting for response of the first wave may save one restoring a system.
Unless of course you already enjoy windows10.

Will wait a week and look at forums, before i make the transition.

Just started playing in 8.1. No Win 10 icon.

you've got 1 year to get it for free. so there's no real rush.
