Same here. I can't see how steam cloud would play in but maybe so. I do have it disabled.

I have Steam Cloud disabled and it opens for me, though after a significant delay.

I was able to connect to the Workshop just fine without Steam Cloud turned on.

Did either of you have the actual Steam App running whilst playing GC III?  I noticed a long time ago that I needed the Steam Client App to run to reliably take snapshots and the like.  At least I don't recall seeing the Steam Overlay appear when it isn't running.

With GC III running try SHIFT-TAB and see what happens.  Especially in the faction creation screen.  If nothing happens, quit GC III, load up the Steam Client App then try running GC III again and see if it works that time.

Aside from that.... dunno. :)  Works for me is all I can say.

I can't figure it out. Steam client is running. Short cuts don't work and game overlay is selected. I can upload, but can't download.

If significant delay means 2-3 minutes with no screen activity, maybe I need to wait longer :)

Interesting.   I had no problem in connecting with the Workshop from the start page.   I chose one of the custom factions, and it seemed to work right out of the box.  I did not notice any lag at all.   But clearly how smoothly the workshop items work is a critical issue.  I haven't tried to upload anything.

i can download, but there are issues.  When I subscribe to a faction, it says subscribed and I go back to the game.  The leader portrait dont show up, and it might lead you to believe that nothing is happening.  In MyGames\Galciv3\Factions, the data is indeed there.  I need to then restart the game, and the factions appear normally.  But when repeating the test, the factions were in fact downloaded, just no leader portraits initially.

as well, when you unsubscribe or delete the faction in game, the files actually REMAIN untouched in MyGames\Galciv3\Factions.  I would think that to be a problems as well, unless subscribing to factions always overwrites what is in there, and Stardock doesn't mind for old trash to collect on our PCs.

Any ideas?   Two different computers    same problem

When you upload something from within the game, does the Steam overlay come up shortly after hitting Upload?

Does hitting Shift+Tab bring up the Steam overlay?

Does hitting Shift+Tab in other games bring up the Steam overlay?

If anyone having this problem can answer these questions, it will help me to track down the issue further :)

Can you restart your computer, start the game, and when on the main menu, hit Shift+Tab and see if it comes up? Also, please post how much memory/RAM you have on your machine and what kind of video card you have (with total VRAM).

this sounds like an issue you should probably report since this is beta.

Tell me what the following Steam settings are set to for you (click on Steam at the top left, then Settings):

In-Game:
Is "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" checked?
What is written beneath "Overlay shortcut keys"?

Interface:
What skin is selected?
Is "Enable DirectWrite for improved font smoothing..." checked?
Is "Enable hardware video decoding, if supported" checked?

Also, are both of those computers MacBooks running Windows, by chance?

I really appreciate the help in tracking this down :)

Also, one more thing: Right click on Galactic Civilizations III in your Library tab and select Properties. Is "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" checked?

This seems related to the steam overlay not coming up. Can you check out he following and see if it resolves the issue for you: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9394-yofv-0014

OH GOOD NIGHT NURSE

Had no idea it was in 2 places.  I checked it in the >LIB>GC3> OPTIONS   and now everything is working fine :w00t: :w00t:

Your KB

https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Knowledgebase/Article/View/496/161/general-galactic-civilizations-iii-troubleshooting

says to turn it off,  am i reading this wrong or does it need an update?

Feel bad i missed it but thanks for you help!

I also missed it, works now.

I have the steam overlay coming up just fine on my end, but GC3 still won't access the workshop. (I already tried restarting steam.)

I wanted to share that I had observed the program FRAPS was preventing my steam overlay from showing. After closing it and then restarting GC3, the overlay returned. Just encase that helps anyone.
