How do you play the Yor early game?

I tried playing the Yor recently, and found their first 50 or so turns to be stupidly hard. The production buildings seem to be only a third as good as the basic factory and I cant seem to get enough population to start colonizing efficiently.

Any Idea what I would be doing wrong?

Generally speaking, I:

  • Crank new colonies into 100% social manufacturing until they have what they need to survive.
  • Build at least 2 factories per new colony. Rush-buy if possible. This helps production get started ASAP. You can over-build them later if needed.
  • Research anything that gives you manufacturing bonuses, plus Fast Assembly.
  • Build the morale buildings to keep production up.
  • After a planet has it's manufacturing base in place, start building robots until you hit the pop cap.
  • Use planets in their "rapid robot production" phase to syphon people off for building colony ships for new colonies.

I have had the same experience but I was trying to play them benevolent... I have found that malevolent trait that buffs your capital production does help in assembly projects. I haven't done the math but i think that assembly project is the best thing to build first in new colonies....

That's one of the things I hate about playing the Yor.  They should at least start with good factories.

Instead of playing the Yor with Yor tech, my recommendation is to play it with Thalan tech.  Hives is HUGE (best early improvement in the game).
