Recommend ways to improve Approval

Morale boosters

Hello all,

New to the game and finding my empire's Approval is very low.  I'm not even at war or anything, my people just don't seem to be very happy at all.  I've looked over the tech tree and I'm not seeing any buildings I can research that would improve morale.  The only direct boost I've found is having starships present in the system, or a couple of the Ideology traits.   I had expected to find planetary improvements to boost moral, but either I'm just missing them or they're not at all obvious.

Wondering if anyone has tips on how to boost existing morale.  Is it increased simply by developing worlds?  Are there any planetary improvements that would help it?

there's a farily easy to get trechnology in the "governance" tech tree. after xeno commerce, you can pick one of 3 commerce specializations. the "supportive population" gives you a flat +4 approval per planet. that alone should immediately get you into the "happy" zone - the colony capital provides a +3 base approval and witht the +4 from the tech, you can have tp to 7 billion people at 100 approval, or about 10 million people at a reasonably happy level.

after the commerce specialization, the tree branches into lines, one of which (xeno entertainment and the following techs) gives you access to approval buildings and approval starbase modules. some techs later in that branch, there's also another opportunity to pick up another +4 passive approval.

if you're playing the tutorial, there's an approval relic not far from your starting planet. you just have to build a contructor, use it to build a starbase near that relic and add the xeno archeaology lab (or whatever the module is called). approval relics improve the morale empirewide.

I completely missed that path in the Governance tree, think I was looking harder under colonization.  Makes more sense now.

Thank you!

Xeno Commerce itself also provides the Entertainment Center colony building, which gives +2 morale. This isn't a lot, but it makes a big difference at the beginning, and with upgrades and especially if it's provided with adjacency bonuses it will become much more powerful as the game goes on.
