Question about ship templates

How do ship templates work?

 

I created a couple of ships in the ship designer and saved them as templates. What i thought what should happen now is the following:

I clicked on a nearby shipyard and hoped to find my new custom ship design, hopefully fully equipped by the AI. However i couldn't find my new design at the shipyard not to mention the fully equipped ship. Also when i started a new game, the ship designs didn't show up in the shipyard.

However i could find them in the ship designer as hulls. My question is, how do i get the templates working in the way i specified before? I would like to open the shipyard and choose a fully equipped custom ship (equipped by the AI with my current technologies). When starting a new game i want those templates from the start in the shipyards.

Do i have to write an XML-file for that? And what kind of?

If you save your design as template, you ONLY save it as a hull project for quick use in future, to be able build that ship at shipyard, just save it whithout "template" option.

Thanks for your answer. I did this with some ships. However I also want the ai to equip my ship designs as stated above. How do i do that?

Well... I actually don`t know about ai equipping players custon designs... There are big brunch of precreated ships, that are equipped  already, but ai can`t do anything whith ships of your design.

You actually need to reference them in a mod to do that and it's a bit complicated.

I have a simple question regarding templates.   Can you delete a ship hull you have created and saved?

 

Also offhand....does the game auto share people's templates around or are they making us new ones?  I've seen a few pop up over the weeks that I didn't make.

If you play a multiplayer game it will save the other players designs in your documents/my games/gal civ3/designs. This is also where your designs can be found and deleted if you wish

All custom ship designs are saved to '//my documents/my games/GalCiv3/designs' and to delete any design you just need to delete 3 files whith design name.

yo dude. you mean that by doing that it will eliminate errors like:

 

  • Ship Design: Missing ship design for ship class static blueprint ValyrianStartingScout. Was this caused by pointing to a custom ship design? Blueprints must point to core or modded ships.

How do I delete a template that I created and no longer want to ever use again?
