1.01 and opt-in options

Purchased the game yesterday, followed the advice on deleting/rennaming all the game locations, updated my video drivers, unenabled steam overlay, and the game is still almost unplayable.

I can't opt-in from steam for this game the tab won't give me the option to.

Have I just wasted my $$$$$s?

What exactly is your problem? What are your specs, and what is making the game unplayable? Need information.

intel i7 4710MQ 2x2.5 ghz processor

16GB RAM

64 bit system running windows 8.1

AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics card

I've turned off the sound and reduced the graphics to low. The game repeatedly crashes, no error messages it just hangs randomly ALL THE TIME! not at game save not when performing specific operations ALL THE TIME.

And why can't I opt-in to the patch on steam?

Because the patch went live. There is no opt-in patch right now.

Try checking the integrity of your game files, and failing that, reinstalling the game.

When you say unplayable what do you mean exactly? Is it very stuttery?

My system isn`t even as good as yours (i5, R9 280X and 16 gig ram) and it flows perfectly even on really big maps. maybe you have some kind of anti-virus or other background utility interfering? Maybe defrag if your drive is not SSD?

You are on a laptop? (hello laptop problems)

Also, the more relevant questions are: Is your drivers up to date? Graphics, most importantly of all.

Is this the only game that is causing problems? If not: Do a RAM test. If so: Do a RAM test anyway. Believe windows has it built in, these days.

Hows your temperatures? Any way of monitoring them?

Also may want to check if you have power saving turned on that changes the processor speed to reduce power consumption - you will want high performance power setting when running the game and make sure that the steam executable runs as administrator and won't hurt to find the game executable and set it up to run as administrator under wins 8.1.  I also run the game on an older MSI Laptop gaming laptop with only 8 gigabytes of RAM with slightly older video card and it runs just fine and game is much more stable now that version 1.01 has been released.

Did you delete the hidden folder in PROGRAM DATA ?

@Neuron, yup checked drivers first thing after encountering the issues. I've had no other game issues, D3 WoW etc run fine on full noise.

@Barry, changed my power settings to high performance, seems to have reduced the issues significantly, ty.

The remaining problem seems to be on zoom in-out-pan or just grab-panning the map

What is the problem?  Do you crash/lock up when you zoom in?

You will sometimes get pauses when zooming in and out and panning, these have been signifigantly reduced in the last beta and in 1.0 and 1.1 but it still happens. Think it's to do with how the game makes maximum use of CPU cores to drive AI my theory is it can cause issues when it has to shunt data from main memory to the video memory I suspect if you have more video ram and a very modern system those issues happen less.

As I say I get less trouble with this than I did in early betas and it's tolerable, tend to avoid too much zooming in and out though my video card is powerful but aging and only supports Direct X 10.1 as well as only having 800gb of video ram in effect per card  (it is essentially two cards in one running SLI) nVidia GTX295

@a it locks up and hangs, sometimes it just hangs indefinitely, the taskmanager shows it still running and using processor and memory but it doesn't come out of the hang, other times I'm getting the "not responding" message.

@eco it does pause sometimes but usually it hangs if it's going to do anything :/

I still get this on my laptop,  what i do is immediately zoom out to where it switches to icons and never zoom in past that point A real pain i wish they would figure out

I've only had one hang where it locked up completely and I had to kill it in the task manager and that was when entering combat after about 4 hours of play, so in that respect I haven't had a particularly bad experience myself.

Oh, I had this problem. Turn off Gel UI. Fixed it right up for me.
