What IS Gauntlet's Race Mod?
Gauntlet's Race Mod is the premier custom race mod for Galactic Civilizations 3 and also provides an array of additional content to improve your game experience. There are versions of GRM for both Crusade and non-Crusade, however the non-Crusade version will generally go unsupported.

30+ Custom Ship Styles that the AI will use!

15+ Minor Races (who start with some colony ships!)

Replaces the Anomalies and greatly increases their diversity and coolness!

KNOWN ISSUES and USE
1) If you use this mod for your own ships/races/etc. a brief credit to this mod is appreciated. 

2) Turn ship-trails off, I use engines as parts in turrets and hulls, it can be distracting.

3) If you experience performance issues, it is most likely the result of the heavy use of animations in any/all of my ship models, or otherwise GC3's general issues. If you experience issues, I recommend either playing with less total races, less races utilizing the ship sets, or otherwise upgrading your PC.
 
4) Under no circumstances may you upload any of these ship designs or factions to Steam.

One option is to make "dummy" versions of some of the factions with whatever parts can be loaded up on Steam, and put in the comments that the 'real' versions are available at Nexus. That would be a lot of work. I am thinking strongly about that myself... posting a few factions to show it is worth going to a free site and downloading a free expansion.

Hrm? I certainly don't consider the Zrenrakka a minor... shouldn't be any mention of them in my minor races, if that is what you meant?

It makes no mention of the customised factions being able to make abilities. I hope stardock puts that in the crusade, but my question is how do you put new abilities to do stuff in the customised factions as far as running the game goes with customised factions. There  has been mods with new abilities, so you could make this mod.

Hi I've downloaded this mod, and noticed an inclusion of the scoundrel ability. I've also noticed that the snathi don't list paranoid when you click on it. In the custom folder it says paranoid, but not scoundrel. I've narrowed what was doing this was your part folder. Can you please just verify that the scoundrel ability works for me. I would appreciate that. thanks. It's was the changed snathi. I do not use the advanced mod. As far as I can tell your mod works with 2.0.

Hi Gauntled i was wondering if you coulde take a look at my more new looking ships and tell me if there are things you like or dislike in them and if they fit as a set. (now that crusade is getting closer i really need someones else opinion about my own shipstyle so i dont fall of the tracks for whatever i am designing.

 

The ships i want you to look at:

Proerus:

Merius:

Ayeren:

 

These are the 4 ships i wish you coulde take a look upon. since they are the more refined and kind of forms themselfs as the core/heart of my shipstyle.

 

woulde have loved to see some feedback in order to progress much more carefully and make designs where i can feel i have made my shipsstyle my own piece of art, for display.

 

(also if possible you coulde take them as a bonus material for one of your vids or make a short one just so i can get a better understanding of what you are pointing out.)

I need help one of the mods broke my mercenaries. The reason I know it was a mod is because the base game without any mods doesn't crash my game when I select the bazar only mods. As far as I can see only the Gauntlets race mod uses mercenaries. I'm using Ccone content pack, Gauntlets mod all of them, Kuji faction with whips, Naeb aggragation, Paronic Malignity, startrek, stratus urbanites, xtak, and the Yor scism. The Yor scism and the Gauntlets race mods clashed, so I combined the tech folders, not the files. I'm just asking for help. The main ones is without restarting this how do I make my mercenaries work again. Also I'm also am trying to make all these mods work together.

Sorry their species name is "Zrenrakka" but their various empires are the Colonies of Zrentak. Zrentak being their ancient homeworld.

I'm sorry but I don't think I'll be able to assist you considering you are using that many mods. Nor will I be supporting compatibility issues with other mods. Why don't you try just removing all the GRM folders from the MODS folder except GRM... IE GRM-M, GRM-PRT, GRM-A etc. and see if that stops the crashing... then you've at least narrowed it down a little.

Gauntlet: are you planning to make interactive text for your races? I wouldn't fault you if you put that on the back-burner, I imagine you prefer the ship design, and that is a lot of races. But for me, I think it would be a great thing to make them more immersive.

Oh definitely. At least for the big races I care about.

IE

Terrans, Ukaros, Zrenrakka, Aquilarans, Tothk, and Fulgar

Hi Gauntlet, Are you becoming more, or less convinced that you will be able to use Steam for your mods?

It would seem from what I have seen that you could based on the ability to change names, add fleets, etc. There could be a problem with adding items to the bazaar and mercenaries, and I am not certain whether you can add multiple ships of each size, or does the game just upgrade basic designs

I'm neither. I made a thread asking some crucial questions which as-per-usual no one from SD responded to. Which is not a jibe at them, its fine, that is very normal. Point is, I just haven't heard any answers.

So I'm pretty in the dark.

Hopefully, I can share the races on Steam, but then offer a "supplement" pack as a mod on Nexus for changes to Mercs, additional color schemes, home systems and more.

Worst case, the new race creator will let me make races faster/easier, with custom dialogue easier, but the mod will remain a non-steam supplies mod... but I fear that will lead to GRM falling into obscurity as people download multitudes of races from Steam and ignore GRM because of the added effort of installing.

So I guess in that case, I'll offer the races on Steam in "lite" versions, to get people "hooked" and maybe lure them into the full GRM package.

 

Or ya know... SD could just support full mods on Steam. That would be a big surprise and fix everything (for me lol).

GRM Lite is what I would need for 95% of the time I am zoomed out so I see icons instead of ship designs.

I almost never zoom in past icon mode.  Unless I am using GRM.  Then it is a must to zoom in on new fleets and a must to use the battle viewer whenever possible.  What's the point of all that eye candy if you don't actually eyeball it?  :)

@Gauntlet I will continue to download your mod even after Crusade come's out because of all the added stuff you put into it. I still think it is the best mod out there. I for one thank you for all your hard work you have done for us. :beer:

Hey guys! Quick announcement... that unfortunately, the day Crusade comes out, I am flying to Alaska with my wife to take my Mom on a cruise... this is ill timed...

 

and it means I won't have an updated GRM until after I get back on May 15th!!

I think leaving it as GRM is fine as even today it's not races (their factions) so the name doesn't match existing game, I see no reason to change it to Civs .vs. Race.

 

Also Guantlet just wondering about your steam policy about using your ships since players can easily create their own styles from any of the existing ships styles they have and if that is going to change?

That is a very good question, I haven't seen how the system really works yet (on the Steam side).

If you can upload a fleet as a "package" and not individually available ships, that would make me pretty happy. That being said, I'm ultimately just going to have to provide things on Steam I suspect, because nothing will stop a player from uploading my designs into Steam... which wasn't worth the hassle to someone before, because that didn't let people create a proper faction... now that this is no longer a barrier...

 

So yeah, my personal policy will be: Please download whole factions and fleets, or even a Collection as a whole (if they enable these features in Steam) and please don't upload my ships and designs as your own without crediting me.

SO if someone creates a Terran shipset that includes 3 of my ships, I'm ultimately okay with that, I just would appreciate a link back or credit for my work. Its all going to depend on the interface with Steam I think.
