What IS Gauntlet's Race Mod?
Gauntlet's Race Mod is the premier custom race mod for Galactic Civilizations 3 and also provides an array of additional content to improve your game experience. There are versions of GRM for both Crusade and non-Crusade, however the non-Crusade version will generally go unsupported.

GRM Offers
30+ Custom Ship Styles that the AI will use!
40+ Custom Races
50+ Ship Appearances
15+ Minor Races (who start with some colony ships!)
100+ Race Portraits
100+ Backgrounds
200+ Race Logos
600+ Citizen Portraits

Replaces the Anomalies and greatly increases their diversity and coolness!
Replaces all Mercenaries from the Bazaar
Replaces the Mines and Bazaar models
Replaces the Pirate models and grants them a few starting ships!

KNOWN ISSUES and USE
1) If you use this mod for your own ships/races/etc. a brief credit to this mod is appreciated. 

2) Turn ship-trails off, I use engines as parts in turrets and hulls, it can be distracting.

3) If you experience performance issues, it is most likely the result of the heavy use of animations in any/all of my ship models, or otherwise GC3's general issues. If you experience issues, I recommend either playing with less total races, less races utilizing the ship sets, or otherwise upgrading your PC.
 
4) Under no circumstances may you upload any of these ship designs or factions to Steam.

Sounds like you are using the latest gc3 opt in... But you're using the standard GRM install... You need the experimental 4.8 GRM install instead to be compatible...

 

Also GSM is not available for the opt in right now.

That or "nuke it from orbit" only way to be sure.

 

That being said you can safely skip the faction folder content I think, IE, portraits, backgrounds, and race files.

 

But yeah, the designs for example, Need to be removed and replaced preferably, if you don't want extra unused designs messing things up.

i am i need of help,

 

i am wondering how to sovle a problem with the (my custom self made parts) when the parts turns really weird out looking in the thumbnail.

(also i added some parts to the custom part accroding to airmaster he thinks this is the cause)

in the first picture it looks fine, however once thumnailed it becomes (that in the sec picture.)

No idea. I literally never upload a ship design to Steam (sadly GC3/Steam doesn't support ship SETS yet).

 

I do agree with Airmaster, some of my thumbnails of custom parts with custom parts attached to them, come out weird like this. I don't know how you would go about fixing that though.

Also Gauntled i have a small request coulde you look upon 3 of my most newer designs. Melvania, Proerus and my mostly newly design Merius.

basicly make a small short reveiw about them. (also take an ingame look upon them)

since i am trying to stick to balanced line for the designs, (also the older ship hasent undergone anychanges since most of my focues has been on making a good huge ship with a lot of trail and error alonge with lots of experimenting for hull shape.)

Since its a challenge to make the ship with the parts i use for my shipstyle. (thalan 66 model)

Edited: you dont need to make a video out of it, a post is plenty enough, but i leave that decision up to you.

As well there is no rush so take the time you need in due time. :)

 

oh one more thing i plan to make a starbase or shipyard in the future, coulde you give me an impression how you think my designs shoulde revolve around that topic. ? any ideas woulde been most helpfull.

Annnd to anyone else, GRM seems to have yet another problem with the latest SD update/opt in. The Bazaar is making the game crash now. I'm working on it.

Alrighty. New version of GRM up and running, version 4.9. In addition, under "updates" you can find a file pack for updating GRM 4.8 files to 4.9.

 

Version 4.5 of GRM is available for those still on V1.8 of GC

Version 4.8 of GRM is available for those still on V1.81 of GC

Version 4.9 of GRM is available for those on V1.82 of GC

 

Version 4.9 VS 4.5? 4.9 adds one race/ship-set and race portrait, also rehashes the TS shipset, designs, and replaces its custom components with numerically numbered ones. All designs reflect the improved components where I felt most appropriate, mostly improved turrets.

Well aside from GRM, I'd say the diplomacy enhancements by Homervore [SP] is the best mod on the block :)

 

I might bring it back for version 1.9 but I'm pretty frustrated with the file changes they keep making with these tiny versions, so I figure it might just be best to let it lie for a bit. Besides a lot of the UI stuff fixed the core issue GSM sought to address (starbase/constructor spam).

[sp] = spelling uncertain/wrong.  Used when one isn't sure what the correct spelling is, but want to get something close to it while still acknowledging it might be/probably is wrong. :)

Due to GRM, and because I'm sort of a paranoid file/tester, I don't use any other mods at the same time as GRM so that I can ensure compatibility/etc. Which makes me very sad sometimes, because Horemvore's mods are excellent and I would absolutely consider them a must have for people trying to get the most out of their GC3 experience.

I think in many ways Horemvore's work now nicely fills the gap that occured when Naselus seemingly dropped off and stopped supporting his work. Though obviously they have somewhat different focuses.

Anywho, Kudos to you Horemvore, keep up the good work!

 Hi Gauntlet,                                                                                                                                                                                                                 I have a strange bug that keeps happening. The ship set's will disappear. not sure what's happening. I did a complete reinstall of the main game and updated the mod to 4.9 last night and was able to play some today. I tried adding some of Horemvore's mod's, just the planet ones nothing that deals with faction's or ship set's. I've tried validating the game file's to no avail. I am at a loss. any help would be appreciated. Thanks again for all your hard work Gauntlet. :andrew: :beer:

I was looking through the schema since the last update and notice a command in the FactionDefs.xml I thought you may be intrested in Gauntlet:- HideFromSelection - Default is False.

 

@Barzane - How do you mean they keep disapearing, the ship while playing or the actual styles? I have tested GRM (not GRM-A and GRM-PRT) with GST and it mostly works other than a few factions missing Home Systems. So GRM should work with my Standalones fine.

When starting a new game the ship are not showing up in the faction appearance section and then do not show up in the game. Nothing in the designer or shipyard. I have taken out all your mods and any other's that I was using. I'll try reinstalling Grm later this morning.

I managed to fix the problem. the best I can figure out was that I was forgetting the objgfxcfg in the Ship design file.

Hide from Selection period, AI and Player sadly. Although I have not tested if it is hidden from the new "random" feature.

Hi Gauntlet,

  Sadly I must say I am still have problems with the game. I found out the two zip file objgfxcfg and the Ship files in the Design folder and the objgfxcfg in the startup file are being overwritten. I am going to delete the game and do a complete reinstall to see if the game got coreupted.
