Dan's list of Galciv3 things that should be looked at.

Great game guys.  Having a lot of fun.  Here's notes I made after a few large games.

Kept these semi-reasonable, except for the AI comments :-).  The ones with * or ** are pretty simple.  Hmm, except maybe the Full screen strategic map.

* = Oh PLEASE!

** = Please please!

Civ3 Notes:
- Should not be able to build a starbase if enemy fleet is around (For AI as well) (Area control)

- ** Show movement area when clicked on a ship.

- * Currently cannot counter-offer a surrender.

- ** Remove diplomacy delay please, very frustrating.

- Go to command needs to remember last selection.

- Turn things on and off on the main map, gets confusing on a battle plan

- * OR full screen strategic map!

- * Ship's list should be fleet list. (Option)

- Display ALL move lines for ships, for large co-ordination. (Option)

- * Team sharing of Rally Points or a Ping I guess.

- Planets with long names get cut off.

- Do starbases keep their original resources forever?

- AI players should say out of enemy territory - maybe?

- ** Aliances should be able to share logistics.

- * Hovering over a graph should show the empires name - As the colors are very alike at times.

- AI is pretty good really, but should concentrate on some things. 1) RECON! 2) Area of Control

For example this is my attack strategy:

- Create a line along the enemy boarder of ships

- Move the entire fleet up as to screen, but I move my ships even in to areas without planets, to have area control. (Lots of sensors)

- Take out targets of opportunity... Starbases.

- After that things get messy, but really I focus on controlling sectors of space and creating a front line.  By the way the friction level in warfare is pretty good, better than Galciv2.

Thanks.

Add an indicator, to let you know if you already have a colony ship headed to a planet.  With thousands of planets in the game, this can get confusing if I already have a colony ship to a planet or not, either have an option to show all ship movement lines on the screen (on/off toggle) or prompt when sending two colony ships to an uncolonized planet.

Be able to have a list of all discovered planets and have them be able to be sorted by their PQ or Type(was in GC 2...no idea why not in GC 3)  On some of these maps this is seriously needed.

Ships, crew, captains, or whatever, should be able to gain xp as you use them in combat, thus getting better and better crews.  Had this in GC 2 again, with ships getting more health and getting better the longer they survived...again missing from GC 3.

Battle viewer needs love...not enough camera modes and freestyle is painful to use.  Again, GC 2 was awesome here...not so much in GC 3.

Need a way to be able to make up new factions better, especially if you are just using them for more opponents in a game.  While I dont mind taking a bit of time going thru making a few of them, I certainly dont want to have to do this if I have more than 20 of them on a map.  I know we will be able to import and use others(can already) but if I dont want to do that, there needs to be a creator or option on the main screen to make them up.

In GC 2(you beginning to see a pattern here)  you could easily import new sounds, visuals for wps and such, make a few additions to the XML and boom, I could have a complete ST mod complete with sounds and visual of ST...not so much in GC 3.  Im hoping this is coming, but if there is an easy way to add sounds for a non programmer, im not seeing it.

Ok, thats my ideas, most of which we have been asking for since early alpha and beta...I dont think any of these are asking for too much, considering we had them before in GC 2 and why they are left out is beyond me.

Yes, very useful.  In GC2 you could see autopilot lines on the minimap, which helped with this problem, but in GC3 they aren't shown.

I modded out the diplomacy delay. An unintended consequence is that the AI will bug you more frequently.

Holy shit yes, how can you manage large military forces without this?!?

Let me threaten and warn other civilizations. Respect my ZOC dammit. Also, don't go colonising that planet right in the middle of some open space with my ZOC all around.

Let me send a fleet to a passing colony or constructor ship, and not fight it, but warn it away.

I hate that AI races can demand you destroy starbases in their territory/near their planets but we can't do the same to them.

I watched the Terrans come into my area of control and boom..drop a starbase right in and take resources and whatnot.  I couldnt even declare war or stop them because it said I was unable to, which im guessing is from an Ideological trait.  Still, thats bogus...that should be an immediate act of war by doing that...

I also wish under the colony listing, that we could change what it says.  Some of my planets arent used for making credits, but rather research and id love to have that show rather than show Credits, not to mention influence as well, if that is what the planet is primarily for.
