AI surrenders even though they are winning?

I just had a pretty weird experience with Iridium Corporation on an insane sized map. The Corporation had a total power of 5800 at the time I had around 1000. They also had 4 times larger military and loads of planets. I was barely holding my own against them. Suddenly they proposed peace and right after that SURRENDERED to the Thalans!? I am allied to the Thalans and they had total power of 150 and maybe 10 planets.

I'm not really wondering about the Thalans but the fact that the leading civilizations just suddenly quits the game. I tried re-doing the turn but it seems that the surrendering happens anyway. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

No major wars have broken out in my galaxy yet, but this seems hilarious! I hope to see something like this.

This is a game bug where after 5000 the power rating resets to zero and the poor AI thinks it is screwed. Maybe it will be fixed in 1.1

Play at a harder difficulty level :P

No, don't play on a harder difficulty! The AI just gets to 5000 power faster and surrenders sooner lol!

I'll probably bump it up to Normal now that I'm used to the new stuff. Once I got enough tech to take on the pirates and scare the other races, it's now a race to the end.

This needs to be hotfixed IMO.

Normal is the best setting. I may try a new game after 1.1 with two agressors at gifted, Drengin and say the Angry Army with the rest at normal. I dont know how badly this would affect the balance of power with the other civs.

Oh and yes this is a known bug and will be fixed this week.

This has been a known bug since beta 3 I think, I love Stardock, but the fact that this made it into release is a little sad. Do the credits still roll over to negative too?

Makes me loathe to even play the game. Currently 150 turns into an immense game with 30 AI and without question the end of the game will be spoiled by this bug.

Awesome! I wonder if the patch works with my existing game so I could continue. It would be a terrible waste to throw 500 turns away!

Think of all the ships you can design while playing it though?

I didn't see anything in the patch note either but maybe it will be fixed.

It has been mentioned in dev streams but there seems to be a reluctance to see the problem. :)

Maybe I should restart, and set game progression or research to a lower level. Slow everything down to the point that maybe the patch will drop before anyone hits 5k power?!

What sucks about this bug is that once you unlock Huge hulls, your military power goes up CRAZY fast every time you build a new ship, so you can easily hit 5000, reach 0 and then get so powerful that your score starts going up again, then you reach 5000 again, twice, in like 10 turns.

This sucks for the AI because Huge hulls are the most powerful counter to Carriers, which they seem to otherwise have trouble with, but once they get huge hulls online, they surrender because they think their military power is zero.

I'm sad that this bug is still around. It ruins the late game completely.

I don't see any mention of it in the 1.01 patch notes, so open a support ticket if you feel strongly about it - it might raise it in their priority list.

I stand corrected. I do not see any mention of this but I thought I heard Brad mention or Paul mention it was going to get fixed asap.

Apologies!

Oh and having to restart a game every week is nothing new. Welcome to post beta!

I guess, if you want to play end game and delay the inflation of power via military score you could make a mod, with ShipBlueprintDefs and change all huge hulls to actually be large.

I one of the streams, Brad denied there was something in the code to make a faction of 5000 surrender. To paraphrase "Their is nothing in the code to do that! It can't happen!" but the users said it did and he said they would check it IIRC.

Just out of interest I installed the latest patch and tried to play few turns. As you can see from the screenshot Iridium Corporation's power goes to 0 (reaching ~6000 power) and after Thalans gain their assets their power goes to 0 too. No point to continue the game because the Thalans would probably surrender to someone in a few turns and the chain of 0 power would continue...

So basically my game was ruined by this :(

Edit: I made a support ticket about this.

Power

Haaa so that is what happened.

I saw a relatively weak AI take over a massive empire after the empire surrendered without warning.

This is pretty much the worst bug that the game launched with. It needs to be number 1 priority and hotfixed immediately. I don't want to get dramatic or anything, but this is an actual game breaking bug. Most bugs people complain about you can work around. There is no working around this. Civ hits X power, civ surrenders to another civ, that civ hits x power, rinse repeat game over.

We have a fix here that we are testing. Initially I was going to hold it for 1.02, but after considering (and reading the feedback from everyone) I'm going to update the 1.01 update to include the fix.

Good call, it wrecks longer and larger games.

Yay so will that fix old games or only work on new ones?
