Need help with the ship designer

Greetings,

I need some tips on how to create custom ships the most comfortable way. Right now I made some new hulls from scratch for myself, but I find it tedious to upgrade and save a new variant every time I attach some new modules to it.

Whats the best way? Save a template without weapons and modules and use that design every time I research new modules? Do I need to develop a nomenclature for every shipclass, for example "frigate V2" and frigate V3" for the upgraded variants and save every one, or is there an easier way?

Also, do I understand it right that you'd best take the cargo and large/huge starter kit to see your ships better on the gamemap? Is there any way to make the small/medum hulls to appear somewhat bigger on the map or do I need ti rebuild them from scratch with bigger starter kits?

If you have any other useful tips, I'd like to hear them, thanks in advance.

Definitely save a template without any equipment. What I do is create a template, save it. Then load the template and equip. Each time I upgrade to a more powerful weapon or drive I change the number. Something like Little Wing B1 for my first ship with a beam weapon. M1 for missles, P1 for projectiles(cannons). Though I do not use projectile weapons since they're so awful. When I upgrade the drive or weapon it becomes B2, B3, and so on. When I start a new game and am using the same ship set(Dregin, Iconian, etc) I often have to delete the ship designs from previous games because they the capacity goes over the limit or too far under it when I'm ready to build a new ship.

Cargo ships have a lot less hitpoints than other ships. They're for colonizing, trading, and constructing. As for increasing size you can enlarge parts from any size set using the ship editor. Most ships appear small on the map, not sure how big you'd want them to be.

1) All ships are displayed at their maximum length at all times. You can make very big ships by making them both wider or taller, but the longer the ship, the smaller your scaling will look.

2) I use the following nomenclature for my templates:

Ship Set Code - Size - Number - Variant Letter

TS-Large 01A

3) For equipped ships... well I'm still working on a code, I think ship capacity, weapon classes, and tech level will likely all be part of it.

Maybe... Name-55-2BM-I (55 capacity, Tier 2 weapons, Beam/Missile, Ion Engines)
