You guys are awesome!

Greetings!

We are nearing the official release of GalCiv III and I wanted to give a shout out to you guys for being so helpful us!

I hope you're having as much fun as we're having.  Tonight we released the build that should largely take care of MP issues and, we hope, that ugly invasion crash some people ran into.  Plus, more AI love.

In the coming weeks I'll be talking more about this but GalCiv III 1.0 is just the start.  This 4 year endeavor to create a massive, 64-bit, multi-core 4X space game engine means that we have the next 5 to 8 years to come up with all kinds of cool stuff with you guys.

Thank you!

The Multiplayer is STILL fouled up beyond actual recognition as I had to have the download before I played some multiplayer tonight (see Seilores -Multiplayer is not ready thread for details)

You, Froggie, are the awesome one - the guy with the grand vision and the gifts which go into making this great game. Please don't ever stop :)

Great work so far Stardock. Looking forward to what the future brings to Galciv.

(But I am concerned that you are going to have a repeat of Elemental with a too early a release)

GCIII is already 1000% more finished and polished than WoM was on release.  The two releases are like night and day.  Also, a game like GCIII is never really 'done'.  It will always be improved and updated.  If SD waits for it to be perfect, it would never be released.

Hey Frogboy and co

Congrats on the release. I won't comment on MP because I've never tried playing an MP game but I'll second charon2112's comment: There is no such thing as perfect.

It must make everyone a bit nervous before they press the metaphorical Send button: IE You all sign off on a Beta/Patch/Release...2 Minutes later does anyone think "Oh CRAP!! I meant to finesse the AI reaction on that starbase thing and the math on the productivity calculation when an AI planet's upgrading it's Manufacturing is all wrong and....and....AND...oh Gawd they're all gonna hate it!! !!DANG IT STOP THE RELEASE!!!" :)

All I expect as that you acknowledge errors/bugs/ommissions. As I've posted previously, how you deal with them is up to you, I just hope I - and all the other Founders - have some kind of impact on that dealing...

The AI needs some serious adjustments for it to work properly, but once you stop the AI from being retarded and only building two buildings on a Level 20 planet, and even when it decides it will build its just pea soup. Once that is fixed the AI will be far more challenging

Thanks guys!

thins look pretty solid at this point. mP is still problematic but it's not a deep seated issue, just syncing issues.

Re the AI, they had made it so that it tries to build a shipyard first on a give. Planet which is non ideal. I've started to look into that code and made some improvements there.

also, re elemental, don't make me get the taser out. As a practical matter, having shipped a lot of games over the past 20. Years, beta 6 could have been the shipping game and we'd been fine.  Elemental was a whole different case, something that wouldn't happen today since we would have just moved the date back a month or two.
