In the general screen, the tootip displays 10 turns (the first turn), then 4 turns (the second turn), then 7 turns (the third turn) for the remaining turns for the current research.
Are you rushing research centres or changing the governance circle to change the amount of research? Or has your survey ship found an anomaly that gives research points? All of these are legitimate reasons this could happen.
No, none of these, normal research, just one tech after another tech.
OK thought I'd ask because I've played the current release a fair amount and not seen any issue of this sort myself so just checking.
Not tested yet in the Beta ver 0.95.5.0, I will update the thread according to the results. 
How far into the game were you ?
are you actually talking first turn?
If so did you launch any colony ships?
edit actually that doesent make sense it would go the other way then NM
