[Request] Display Tech Research Points Cost

on the Technology Screen

In the Technology screen can we please have the number of research points required for a tech as well as the turn time?

EG:

United Planets Lobbyist

(4000pts) 1 turn

At the moment I have to go to the Govern screen, set my generated research to ~100 points, then to back to the Technology screen to see the turn estimate (it this case - 40). Then go back to the Govern screen and re-adjust the production spending to give me 4000+ points of research so that I complete the tech in 1 turn, while not wasting production on over-researching. Then go back to the Technology screen to verify it says 1 turn.

I Was thinking the same thing, but I wonder if it would be better to make it a little less clear how long something takes to research after all when you are going to research something you don't necessarily know how long it will take to figure it out. I find it might be a little to easy to plan not to research things until the last minute and then catch up. I like the idea of having to set things in motion so that we have to anticipate what will be useful further into the game....  Just a thought

Erm, I didn't think it was possible to 'over research' any more? Unless you're at the point where you're generating so much research you could finish more than one tech a turn,  at which stage I'm not sure you'd really need to micro it as you're clearly winning the game?

Distant Worlds has something similar where a tech might take 10 months to research but 3 months in you might get a message that says you've had a set back and had to start again, or you've had a breakthrough and it'llbe finished early.

I'm just after turn 200. I can generate up to 10,000 research points per turn. So if I went back and picked up some early techs that cost only 800 points or so, that means I should be able to get 10+ per turn. But since you can't get more than 1 tech per turn, you can still over allocate research points and "waste" production.

Yes I'm wining that game. But I'm winning because I'm better at resource management than the AI.

The more info the player has (like actual resource point costs) then the better they can play the game. I can already get the info using the method I outlined, but I'm looking for a way to cut down on the micromanagement. Less empire logistics accountant, more empire overlord.

I once tried to figure out how much each tech costs in research points, but then I realized that each I researched was making the cost of all my other techs go u[p.

It really isn't all that important. Even if you get to the point where you are 1 turning a bunch of techs, all your extra research is saved up, so you will never 'waste' research.  If you have 10,000 research per turn and you research 10 techs that cost 800, you will save up 92,000 research points to spend on that tech that says it takes 10 turns to complete. That way, you'll complete 11 techs in 11 turns as opposed to micromanaging your colonies so that you finish 11 techs in 20 turns.

That's how I thought it worked, hence my confusion.
