[.95] Free ships gained from anomalies can use up strategic resources

This is new behavior, as far as I know.  Some anomalies will grant the player ships upon creation. Near as I can figure, the computer will auto design a ship on the fly for the player.  All well and good.  The problem is, it will use up a players' resources when it creates the "free" ship.  And if the player has no resources?  It'll display a "-1" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Logically, these free ships shouldn't use up any resources that the player has at all,  I would think.

So far, I've seen this for Survey ships granted by an anomaly (specifically the "prototype survey module").  Here is a screenshot of a newly created survey ship at the beginning of the game causing my faction to have a "-1" in Thulium.

I have a save file created just before getting this survey ship.  If this is indeed a bug (even if "free" ships are supposed to take away my resources, they shouldn't put me in debt), I'll send it to Stardock when I have the chance.

I don't see a huge problem. It is essentially a loan of a resource that will be paid back when you mine the resource. If you don't like the ship or resent the debt, sell it to a minor, or a low power major, and the resource comes back.

The idea is that the resource would already have been used in the production of the ship, which was not done by you. Then again, that theory doesn't make much sense either, since it's not a one-off cost. It's more of a maintenance to keep that special module working.

In line with anomaly granted ships a bug I found when playing the Thalan the free ship the text roughly said that; a Terran like ship had appeared to have traversed a wormhole, complete with green goo, but the ship was actually Thalan in design.

Saw this as well.  Both when I got the ship, and when I traded for one from the AI had gotten from an anomaly.

What is the benefit of the thulium survey vs the normal survey module anyway?

I think the thulium may use less mass. not sure I thought I saw that last night while playing...
