The "Farmers" racial trait is supposed to give you a bonus or penalty (15%/25%) to food production, AKA population cap, but instead it does nothing. This means that not only is Farmers II a waste of 2 points, but Poor Farmers II is a free 2 points. Might want to fix that soon.
Actually, it appears that Farmers modifies your max population, but does not correctly display Food.
Actually, you're right. I just double-checked.
Now THAT'S strange, because it does correctly display food loss from a desert planet, for example.
I looked at the racetraits XML, and the farmer's racial trait increases max population rather than food. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, as I reported a similar issue with desert planets manufacturing boost not displaying properly because it increases Manufacturing rather than MaxManufacturing in the planettraits XML.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there any real difference between increasing max food and max pop?
I would rather it be food then as that tracks better. Seeing pop higher than food just is unintuitive to me.
There are things which give both penalties and bonuses to "Food". If the trait adjusts max pop directly then it sidesteps balance issues around "Food". Maybe? Just playing devil's advocate here.
They should just fix it because invisible modifiers are confusing.
Have you sent a ticket in about this?

For support where examining saves is required, names of ships, planets and starbases, etc, are extremely helpful in their attempts to reproduce the issue.
