B6 First impressions

So I ran a small game to test that my old custom factions were working, then went to a gigantic game.    Not too far in, but my memory use and even my cpu temperature is significantly down.   Plus, you know, like I am sure I will find bugs, but man it looks sweet so far!   Yeah, I know, I am just a G.C.F.B. as always.

  Yeah I am very pleasantly surprised by how smooth it runs so far compared to beta 5 and totally enjoying the lower cpu temps as well !! Very many kudos to you guys for Beta 6.

  Only bad thing I have found so far and do not know if its intentional change or accidental or even if I hit a bug but why was the time to construct a new shipyard increased by a factor of 5 ?? Every new one I try to build at new colonies is averaging a build time of 55-75 turns when in beta 5 it was averaging  11-15 turns.

Yeah I'm liking the changes. I was unable to play with bloom on in the previous builds. While I'm not at home to fully appreciate it. I can tell my home PC is not struggling like it was before. It's not that my system is all that below spec.

The shipyard build time really shocked me.  I was ready to report a bug!  I find it really changes the initial colony rush.  Probably a darn good idea.  But wow.

Balance feedback is welcome for sure.  I personally think they might be a bit too high now.  They were way too cheap.

Nah Frogboy they are perfect!

 

This patch is by FAR the best you've released. Whole game looks and feels 100x more polished, and its now MUCH more balanced. Except for maybe resource buildings :)

Techs are a LOT slower to research now too. Makes it much better

And wait until NEXT WEEK's patch.  I just checked in (I kid you not) 75 minutes of music.  Every race gets their own soundtrack. It's so nice.

Not to mention the AI improvements.  I couldn't check in a lot of the evil I'm doing into beta 6 because it involved a lot of low level surgery.

   You also need to compare building a constructor to build a shipyard vs building one at the colony.  As it is I am considering giving up on building shipyards from the colony screen in favor of much cheaper to build constructors - and I can place the shipyards where I want, instead of having to move them where they will do the most good.

I would like to chime in on the shipyard cost.   I think it is great.    Realized right off that building constructors for shipyards was going to be the way to go...which of course slows the colony ship building.   Of course fine tuning is always in order to discuss, but after the surprise wore off I though it felt very good.   Great idea!
