This is from a game that was started in Beta 5.3, don't know if this happens with new games too:
Planets, suns, asteroid fields, resources and starbases are hardly visible anymore when zoomed out - they are black now, don't feature the faction color.
Trym, With any Beta release you should always start "new" games, that is one downfall with being part of the beta process... Any saved games may not respond or work correctly.
I'm 415 turns into this one, finally starting to kick ass... hard to let go!

Yes, we changed the lighting system in beta 6, but your save still has all the old xml values in it, so things may look a little off. You may want to start a new game, just to verify that things look right. Then you can always play your old game, even if the lighting isn't optimal.
I was about to ask this myself. On a new game this problem went away for me.
Started a new game and everything is fine now. Too bad for my old game, was just about to start steamrolling the galaxy 
you can always finnish you old game Trym it's just the ships won't look entirely right.
