Question Regarding Population Cap

I was recently finishing a game as a custom race and noticed that essentially every planet had a greater population than the "Food" provided on the planet. Is this a bug perhaps associated with custom races or do I not understand the relationship between Maximum Population and the Produced "Food" on a planet? I always thought population was limited by the total food available on a planet but am I wrong?

Thanks

It normally is limited, but there's a racial trait (or maybe ability) that you can choose for a custom race that allows you to exceed the limit.  I can't remember what the name of it is at the moment and I'm not at my GC3 computer or else I'd give you the name.

As far as I know there is no trait or ability that does that. However when you build farms they give bonuses to each other if adjacent and maybe the added bonus does not display on mt but does display on pop cap? That was my assumption when I ran into this in my game.

It's the Farmer trait.

There is missmatch in tooltips if you choose farmer, food is X but population is x+%, you see the real number it in the growth popup.  UI issue.
