Ship Designer

Features that would come in handy

One of the things I spend a lot of time doing is designing (or redesigning) my ships.  In the process of doing such; there are a few things that come to mind that would certainly save a lot of time and make things way easier:

1st (and foremost) among them would be the ability to swap out components.  It would be fantastic if I could click on the component that I want to upgrade and have the new one placed in the exact same spot with the exact same settings!

2nd (and very much needed) would be + and - buttons above (or below) the Rotate Offset dials.  There are so many times when I sit there going back and forth between 178 and 182 (and other close numbers) trying to get 180.  Having those + and - buttons would allow me to simply click a few times to get that exact number I require.

3rd (as I haven't figured out how yet) is the ability to edit a template without creating a new one (and having ones I don't seem to be able to delete).

4th (and this is a biggie) would be the ability to copy an entire design (excluding components) from one size to another.

Last (but certainly not least) would be the ability to preselect a hard point (or soft point or whatever they are called now) prior to adding a new item.  There are so many times when I can't quite get that new piece to go precisely where I want it.

Anyway, those are the four big things that I would like to see added.

good idea

I sure agree on the rotation function. The offset can be +/- at either end of the scale

I would like an edit function for custom ships as well as templates. If you want to edit the name of a ship or make any minor change you have to change, re-save, and delete the old design.

I haven't had that need come up but I can see how it could be handy

Those all sound like good ideas.

Maybe I'm misremembering GC2 but when you clicked on a part on a design and then back on the same part in the part list didn't it give you that part matching the settings of the part already used and not just the default?  I'd like to see that back or some quick and easy way to copy a part you've placed that isn't using the symmetry command since that comes with its own issues.

Mid game huge map, but don't think it matters in this error.

I designed a carrier on the previous mod and now in 0.80.  I tried to delete the old carrier module which was incompatible to see the game pop out of existence.

Can you catch the error and bring up a message that the component is incompatible so that it can be deleted without crashing?  I know you cannot effect changes to ship designs on personal computers.  See if there are other components that are incompatible and add the error catch.

I have made some Terran Temp lets. I tend to favor just adding some Spinning wheels on the back end of my ships and maybe some wings and more 'moving  part's to the excellent designs in our game.

What I  like is to do is take the temp-let and make 3 versions of the same ship. I would like to be able to change the colors/tints so I can see at a glance what they are for. Say Red is beams and Gold is for Missiles...

I dont know if this is or could be possible in a future dlc or such.
